It's Thanksgiving Day weekend

And I have a voice! I can talk! Without damaging my vocal chords. Which is always a good thing. Since I'm terrible at not forcing the talking when I have no voice. My friend, who is a speech pathologist, keeps reminding me - quite firmly - that I need to not do that.

Anyway, I can talk. The child is less than impressed, for some reason. Except, y'know, when I didn't have a voice, she kept calling for me when we're in separate rooms on separate floors. And it's not like I could yell back and ask her what she wanted.

However, I have no dial tone on my phones. And it's not my fault! It's not my phones' fault either. The guy from Telus came earlier to fix it, but he couldn't find the access to the phone panel. And the rental office was closed, due to the holiday. So, I will have to call them on Tuesday and then call Telus back, so I can finally get phone service.

And I finally got paid from the insurance company for the balance of my time off. Woot! This is a good thing, as I can now pay off a few bills and start Christmas shopping. And get a pot for the one remaining plant I bought the other night. I kind of went a little mad at Ikea on Thursday, where I meant to pick up some pots for the five plants that I was given. However, I ended up picking up nine new plants. Yeah, my house is very tropical right now. But plants and planting make me happy. So, I'm going to go with that.

Plus, this way, I can take a few plants to work and brighten up my personal work space. In the spring, during one of our cost-cutting meetings, someone suggested that we get rid of all the plants in the office (company owned plants, that is) and, thus, no longer have to pay for the watering service. I just about died. It's such a neutral space and the bits of greenery here and there make a difference.

And now, I'm going to have a nap, before going to my friends' house for Thanksgiving dinner.

ETA: I saw this report on yahoo last night and I was quite pleased and impressed by the subject matter. How adorable are those two little children from Burkina Faso? And the photos are gorgeous. In a world where what divides us seems to be more important than that which us connects us, projects like this are crucial to demonstrating those elements that are universal, across culture, ethnicity, religion and language.

Also, for further feel good videos, I'd like to suggest seeing the Free Hugs video on youtube, which I discovered thanks to tiggz. I know that I've oft been comforted by something as simple as a hug. What a great movement. It's not going to change the world. It's not going to erase third world debt or make torture disappear or stabilise regions where instability is de rigueur. But everyone needs joy and solace. It's amazing what a hug can do.
