So, I am awake. I'm tired, but not sleepy. What else is new?
If I had a copy of 1984, I could read the first paragraph and be happily asleep. Alas, I don't (to which I say, gracios a dios; not that I believe in dios , but the expression holds true), so no sleep for me.
I've had surprisingly little caffeine today. Relatively speaking, that is. So, it's not that which is keeping me awake.
And now, onto other things...
Sufjan Stevens' "John Wayne Gacy, Jr." may just rival Nirvana's "Polly" for prettiest but most disturbing song ever. Granted, "Polly" has special meaning for me. But fuck if this isn't the most delightfully beautiful song on the album.
I quite like the Wolf Parade tracks that velocity forwarded to me. In particular, "Dear Sons and Daughters of Hungry Ghosts." And what is it with indie music and song titles?
Of the films I rented earlier this week, I've finally managed to watch a few of them. Rosetta, which is a Belgian film, wasn't horrible, but it won't be a repeat watch. Very depressing. However, I had a little freak out over the use of the word, septante. I mean, I know it's what they say in both Belgium and Switzerland, it's just that I don't often get to hear it. It's not at all wrong, it's just not the norm. And much like Cam and neo-cons, it's nearly mythological to me. But anyway, I digress.
If you want to see a great depressing Belgian film, go see C'est arrivé près de chez vous (Man Bites Dog). Excellent film. Completely fucked up. But marvelous.
Caught The Central Station tonight. It's a Brazilian film and was excellent. Very moving. And the score? To die for. I highly encourage everyone to go see it, if you haven't already. Plus, my understanding of simple Portuguese isn't so bad. I can read (simple) Portuguese to a certain degree, but have problems understanding it à l'oral. Now, if only I could spell the Portuguese word for thanks - uh, I have this thing about saying "thanks" in other languages - cause I can say it pretty well.
There are even more spoilers for Veronica Mars. I will not read them. I will not read them. I will not read them. I will not read them. Ohmigod, this is so hard.
