Connor has recently befriended a couple of girls down the road from us, which is fantastic in many ways. They’ve got someone who’s always around and eager to play with them and it gets him out of the house and active, not to mention he’s honing his social skills. It turns out that one of the girls is the same age as him, her birthday is actually only a week before his! She also has a big sister (looks to be about 9) who he plays with. They are both apparently addicted to Angry Birds too, so they hit it off immediately and have been going strong on a daily basis since then.
The other day I asked him their names. He only knows one.
C: “I forget what her name is. She speaks Spanish and she says it in Spanish so I don’t know what it is in English.”
Me (grinning a bit): “Names are the same in every language.”
C: “Huh?”
Me: “Names don’t change because the language does. Your name is Connor in every language. My name is Shannon whether I’m saying it in English, French, German, Spanish, or Portugese.”
C: “So how do you say your name in French?”
Me: “Shannon”
C: “Oh… then her name is Maria!”
So cute!
