Briar: Connor if you were going camping for one night, what would you pack?
Connor: A toothbrush, toothsoap, and extra penises.

O_o I love listening to my kids, they come up with the most interesting ways to look at the world. But seriously.... extra penises??

This guy is pretty funny. I think of these things when my poor kids are trying to learn to read new words and write them. "Look, don't ask me *why* there's a K after the C! No one knows! There!! Why is there a K at the beginning of "knows"?!" It's frustrating enough for them, and this is their native tongue, I can't imagine being someone learning English as a second language.

Connor and I were visiting my grandparent today and when we're there he gets out their Spill and Spell game and starts making words with the letter dice. Today we were getting him to try making words we suggested and try to read ones we made. At one point I did HOW and explained, after he tried, that OW says the sound you make when you hurt yourself (so much easier to explain verbally!). He then took out the H and substituted an M. Well damn. You know that rule I just told you? Forget it. *This* word inexplicably says it *this* way! Stupid English.

I took Briar to see Diary of a Wimpy Kid tonight and she loved it. Shoot me.

Briar’s been having a very tough time of it this time that Chris is gone, I don’t know if it has anything to do with Chris or if it’s just coincidental, it may be more hormonal in nature, trying to navigate that hazy section of life when you’re trying to figure out what you are and where you fit in. Or she could just be trying to drive me insane. At any rate today was fairly good. She applied for a job delivering flyers right around here and got called today saying she got the job so she’s quite jazzed about that. It will be interesting to see if the money remains enough of a draw to counteract the fact that (I suspect) she will get bored with it quickly and, with 242 houses, it will be a lot of work.
