Jack closed the door to Elizabeth's house, blinking in the early morning light. He walked across the sandy beach, heading for the sad little ship that he was currently sailing. Not the Pearl by any means- but it would do until he acquired the Pearl once more.
He had knocked on Elizabeth's door two days before. She had cut her hair short; he liked it. He stayed with her the next two days, drinking rum with her and telling her stories of the sea. She was hungry for all the tales: she laid sprawled out on the floor in front of him, listening intently for hours. Her two year old slept in the next room, or played with the blocks Jack had brought him.
Jack loved the taste of Lizzie, the taste of her mouth and skin. He loved seeing her naked, even though she was quite pale from being indoors so much. It was strange to think of the Pirate King being bound to land. She liked it there at her tiny home. She liked the village nearby. She liked her son. She did not like being away from Will...or Jack.
Jack wondered if Elizabeth would ever sort out her feelings regarding Will and him. She loved Will enough to marry him, have a son with him. She loved Jack enough to tear at his clothes every time he came to visit, to hold tight to him and smile widely whenever he appeared on her doorstep. He missed her. She missed him. He had once fallen in love with Tia Dalma, but had went on to fall in love with Elizabeth. He was in love with Elizabeth still, but did that mean he would never love anything else again?
He stepped onto his ship, listening to the sweet lullaby of the waves. He turned and looked back once more at Elizabeth's tiny cottage. He saw her standing there, a small figure in a blue dress. The wind tossed her hair around, making her face impossible to read.
Before he left her house, he had pressed a kiss to her forehand. "I will see you soon, love." Months later. Maybe a year. But he would be back. She would never leave his blood.
"I'll be here." She replied, her voice catching. She held tightly to his hand, like she didn't want to let go. But she did, because her journey had led her to that island, to be Will's wife, to be Sparrow's mother. His journey led to the Pearl, to the sea...always.
She was in him. He could never leave her. No matter what happened, or who he found.
He blew her a kiss as he cast off. She closed her eyes, touching her lips with her fingertip. She smiled a tiny smile as she watched him disappear into the horizon.
