Life, but not as we know it

Life's been pretty consistant lately. I've been waking up, going to work, working late-ish, coming home, spending time with my lovely wife, then play on the laptop til late. Sometimes mix it up with watching the DVR or play XBOX, but otherwise more of the same.

Weekends are a mixed bag. Usually sleep in on Saturday to get rid of some of the 'sleep debt' incurred over the week (typically get 4-6 hours on weeknights), then I try to help Marian with some chores (I really do try...success rate needs some work though). My homebody tendencies get the better of me usually, but I do try to take her out when something comes up.

I'm trying to get up to speed on Cisco router operation. Work is swapping out the DS-3 for a 50Mb connection (burstable to 100), along with a dedicated private line to the Orlando DR colo facility that has 20Mb of the pipe preallocated. Needless to say, all this is rather heavy on the networking side of the job, so I've been trying to fill in my conceptual understanding with more concrete data.

While doing this, I've been busy wheeling and dealing in Eve-Online...I'm now managing about 40 other people and have built a robbed-blind industrial corp from building small frigates to a powerhouse. I really need to find a way to get that onto my resume; the people management skills, logistical workups and the like have direct real-world translations. The pew-pew part...not so much, but hey, it is a game. :)

Marian turned 25 yesterday. Of course, best laid plans and all...but it went much poorer than anticipated. Gift was back ordered, finally shipped a day or so before her birthday. Rather than drop it at the door, they give a "missed you!" note. My card had some gift-spoilers in it, so I couldn't give it to her before the gift, which we couldn't get that evening. And finally, the nice restaurant I had picked out was in fact fairly nice...and a hangout for the 60+ crowd.

I managed to get her the gift and card today, and if she feels up to it we'll be heading out to the Melting Pot in a few. I still feel bad for dropping the ball, but sometimes it happens...all you can do is try to make up for it. I feel like I'm always playing catch up though--thanks to a nanoscopic attention span, and a short term memory to match, well...lets just say I'm interesting to live with. I don't know what I'd do without Marian.

The boys are all doing well, at least. Dusty is still fun to bring to the bed; DJ and Gizmo tend to run hell-bent to the edge and jump off immediately. :(
Dusty is still tipping the scales at a very healthy 750g (almost 2 lbs); DJ is also growing like a weed and has hit about 625 (plus or minus). Gizmo was hovering around 500 for a long time, but he's lost weight (again) and is sitting around 435-440. Poor baby can't keep the weight on; he tends to be skittish periodically.
