Title: Fathers

Author: Briannakin

Timeframe: Various (most post-rotj)

Characters: Anakin/Darth Vader, Owen Lars, Luke Skywalker, Ben Skywalker

Notes:  First time doing drabbles! I’ve never done them before, but I wanted to try and figured this would be the best way to do this fic.

Anakin/Darth Vader

19 BBY

The burning pain coursing through what was left of his body was nothing compared to the pain of his now shattered heart. Obi-Wan, the man who had been like a father to him had betrayed him. Anger bubbled up inside Darth Vader hotter than the lava lapping at what remained of him.

And deep down, the small part of him that remained Anakin wept. Because of his mistakes, he would never see Obi-Wan or Padmé again. He would never get to see his child. He would never know the joy of being a father. And for that, Anakin truly wept.

Owen Lars

9 BBY

“I HATE YOU!” a ten-year-old Luke yelled at his uncle. “I WISH THAT MY FATHER HAD NEVER DIED!”

Owen winced as the boy slammed the door.

He truly wished that Beru wasn’t with her family. He gave his nephew, his child, a few hours to calm down.

“Luke?” he entered with a tray of food. He tried to sound soft as he gazed at the lump on the bed. “I brought you dinner.”

“I’m not hungry,” Luke muttered.

“Okay. I’ll just leave it here.” He set it on the desk then left.

One day, my boy, you’ll understand, Owen thought.

Luke

29 ABY

“What’s dat?” Pajama clad Ben said as sat on his parents’ bed roll. He was pointing with a chubby finger to the bacta-patch on Luke’s chest. Today, the ’Vong war ended and Luke had been reunited with his son.

Luke had been changing for bed. “It’s a bacta-patch.” He slipped into the bed and put his son on his lap.

“What’s dat?”

“A bandage to cover an owie,” he explained.

“Oh,” Ben said softly. “I kiss it better?”

Luke’s heart melted. “Please.”

Ben leaned forward and planted a soft kiss on the patch.

“Better, Daddy?”

“Yes, Ben, it’s all better.”

Luke

33 ABY

“Dad?” Ben said as he woke up from a deep sleep to a dark room.

“Ben?” the reply came instantly. His dad leaned forward into his sight. Luke was holding Ben’s small hand. “Do you remember what happened?” his voice cracked.

“I was racing with Jolinar and I crashed my swoop-bike. What’s wrong with your voice?”

“You cracked your head open pretty hard, even with your helmet. You’ve been out for a while. I was worried about you.” Ben then saw that his father’s eyes were rimmed with red.

“You’ve been crying. Why?”

Luke kissed Ben. “One day, you’ll understand.”

Ben

57 ABY

Normally, the 76-year-old Luke Skywalker would be asleep at this unholy hour, but instead, he was not so patiently waiting in a med-center waiting room. Finally, Ben emerged, weary but smiling, with what Luke was waiting for. In his arms was a tiny bundle of pink blankets.

Luke stood with the aid of a cane.

“Grandpa,” Ben said, placing the bundle in Luke’s arms. “Meet your granddaughter.”

The baby settled in Luke’s arms and looked up with large, curious blue eyes. “Hey there. What’s your name?” he cooed, bouncing her.

“Since she is so… small, we named her Lukia Skywalker.”
