Election Day yesterday... I'm in a somewhat unique situation living in the predominantly RED County of Orange - then again, the State of California is grossly BLUE. (Actually, being from Bucks County, I was in the very same situation back home in Pennsylvania too) So it's not surprising that the ballot measures that Governor Schwarzenegger put forth passed resoundingly in Orange County but failed miserably in the rest of the state. God damned labor unions - especially the fucking teachers union. Since losing out on a union-driven grievance arbitration while working for the County of Bucks many years ago, I have a deeply rooted hatred for unions in general. These fuckers "fought" for the "rights" of one dues-paying member in order to screw over another based solely on their beloved concept of seniority - NOT skill level or other overall job qualifications. FUCK that!!!! So I'm pretty much against anything that the big labor unions come up with. With Los Angeles a mere 30 minutes to my north, the urban left is a tough act to beat. All this being said, I knew full well going to bed last night what the headlines would read in my morning OC Register waiting for me on the front porch, so I really shouldn't be angry about this, but I can't help it. Schwarzenegger has done wonders for this state in the short time he's been in office - but again, being a staunch Republican in a largely Democratic state is not easy.On a brighter note, there was another nationally televised Flyers game last night against the Boston Bruins. When I got home from work, the score was 1-0 Flyers in the second period. I paused the game on my DVR and walked down the street to vote. Came back home and un-paused the game to watch the damn Bruins score three unanswered goals to make the score 3-1. Long story short, the Flyers tied the game with TWENTY-THREE SECONDS left in the game... and then scored the winning goal in overtime. It was exciting to watch. Took the day off tomorrow to go fishing with Justin - I hope it doesn't end up raining.
