I know many of my friends here are writers, interested in becoming writers, and/or interested in Science Fiction. I found this interesting article called the "
The 7 Deadly Sins of Religion in Science Fiction". It acknowledges that religion is indeed a large part of many Science-Fiction stories and by being so, makes the genre richer and more interesting. The author though argues there are seven large mistakes when it comes to incorporating religion into Sci-Fi.
The seven in short are listed as follows:
- The cargo cult
- The cheap Jesus
- The dumb space gods
- The all-purpose patch for lazy writing
- Simplistic religion vs. science battles
- Simplistic science-bashing in the name of religion
- New-agey-ness <-- Yes, I hate this so much
Anyway, he goes into detail on each of these. I am curious to hear your opinions as writers, especially any writers who work in or dabble in Science Fiction. What do you think?
