So much went on in the Casa Gardell this weekend. And only a couple plans went according to, well, plan.
First: we have a clean house! Well, for the most part. It was clean Saturday.
Second: we had our first Hamlet rehearsal! It was so great to see the rest of the cast assembled, and after reading through the first half, I was pleased to see that everyone had at least a grip on the language. I've worked with newbies before, and it's tough. Unfortunately our Sunday rehearsal was cancelled, so our next rehearsal is next Monday (I don't like week long breaks). But it allowed for:
Third: Massive IKEA trip on Sunday! My sister and mom joined Sean and I, so it was a fun little party. Next time, we won't go on a holiday weekend. It was insane. I did run into a coworker though, which was a nice surprise. Before we had gone, I had sat down and planned out my desk. And I showed it to Sean. And Sean apparently pays no attention to pieces of paper with scale desk drawings and materials lists and important things like what my design will COST. Cause, you know, he's an engineer. It's not like he works with those every day. And he might have been playing some online game when I put it down in front of him. So he was shocked when I started writing down everything we needed to pull from the warehouse. Then he saw a table that he liked, and we then argued discussed passionately options for legs and table tops and bookshelves and storage...all things I had already mapped out and visualized for days. Add that to the crowds and severe overload of options in the store and I'm very surprised (and proud) that I didn't retreat to the children's department and hide in one of the egg chairs. In the end, we worked out a desk system that will work for the two of us.
Fourth: No more Charter cable! *insane happy dance here* We had DirectTV installed yesterday morning, and in a week we'll have Verizon internet, so we can walk into Charter, dump their boxes and crap on the counter and leave waving a few choice fingers. With receipt in hand. We are not leaving them any windows to screw us more than they already have.
Fifth: I have Angry Birds an iPhone. Sean has Angry Birds a Droid. We FINALLY got to re-up our phones and contracts yesterday. My BB Storm refused to acknowledge a call that morning. It's like it knew.
Sixth: The office has a new wall color! I've been scrutinizing colors like Tim Gunn. Who knew there were so many tones of tan/cream? I had selected a color that I sampled on the wall, but it was too peachy. I was debating between "Whetstone Grey" and "Gull" from Martha Stewart's line, and liked "Gull" but couldn't get over the thought of having a sea bird on my walls. So we went to get paint, I was ready to resign myself to "Gull" when I pulled a card from the Behr line and, pretty much on a whim, ordered a gallon. I got the first coat up last night and did do a happy dance, which my sister got home just in time to witness (and blackmail me forever with). I blamed the paint fumes. It's perfect! Not peachy, not too grey, not too yellow, not greeny. Tonight will be coat number 2 (and I'll open a window this time even though it's negative below out). Then I'll paint the master. Fingers crossed we'll have 2 fresh new rooms by the weekend :)
Oh my...if you're still with me, sorry about that.
