32. Stolen Innocence: My Story of Growing Up in a Polygamous Sect, Becoming a Teenage Bride, and Breaking Free of Warren Jeffs by Elissa Wall (with Lisa Pulitzer)
I remember listening to reporting from this trial last fall, and the book came out pretty quickly. It's late June and the book mentioned things that happened in early April of this year, and I can tell it was a rush job. I noticed a few typos that would never have shown up in a book that was proofed more carefully.
Mostly reading this book made me feel profoundly grateful for my privileged upbringing and the limitless opportunities I've had. When I was a kid my parents were constantly telling me that I had no idea how lucky I was to be born in the time, place, and family I was born into. Books like this remind me that they were totally right.
