Christmas was a tad rubbish. Then again i guess it was what i made it. I got more last year when i only mentioned one thing i wanted, than this year when i wrote down around 5 things i wanted. I did get that frothie thing aswell. An awkward bugger to clean, and my mum said that it was something to keep in my place when i move out. Not a very subtle message me thinks. Now after all that stuff i didn't get any sleep last night due to some major tooth ache. I think i ate too many sweets.
In other thoughts, channel 4 have been playing this clip of an interview done by the monty python crew alongside some priesty types concerning the "Life of Brian" film. The priesty bloke is shown saying something like "this film wouldn't have been made if jesus hadn't lived" but that got me thinking this whole country would have turned out differently if a book hadn't been written about jesus' adventures. Now i'm not sure if im right on this assumption, but i think that the catholic church wouldn't exist anyway, or if it did it would be a more direct descendent from judaism. It would be a religion based around the happenings of the old testament (or the only testament). Even if a group had existed regardless of the absense of Jesus, i doubt that they would have either troubled the Roman Empire or been big enough to convert a few of it's emperors. One of the reasons for the fall of the roman empire was because of its new christian sensibillities. Anyway if the roman empire hadn't been influenced by christianity in any form then our country would have a completely different structure of power, as would a lot of europe.
The whole idea of a monarchy is that the person is in charge because he/she is in a direct relationship with God in that anything the monarch says can be seen as a direct order from that higher being. Now without the whole new testament and jesus thang i seriously doubt anyone could be taken seriously if they said they were only giving the orders as directed from on high. They could do this previously because of that book saying some Jesus bloke had been doing just that. Without the past example they would be locked up in a mental asylum. Or burnt at the stake. Anyway i think that there would be more of a multiple god approach to religion, similar to the romans, greeks, egyptians, aztecs and other belief systems. Given this society i can't see there being one ruling group in a country such as a king, and instead there would probably be groups either following the same gods but having different priesty types, or having different gods and being at war.
Shall i cut a long story short? Without jesus there would be no christianity, no roman catholic church. Therefore this country wouldn't have a monarch under instruction from god, and therfore no government or parliament. If we take it to its next natural step we can therefore see that not only would there be no spitting image due to there being no political or monarchy figures to make fun of, but no comedy full stop. Not that i'm saying that monty python wouldn't have existed without spitting image, especially as python was around long before image, but that the social changes this country would have gone through would have been so different to what it has been through, that comedy as we know it would not exist. Heck, who's to say anything like what we have today would exist? So let us thank Jesus for the great comedy we have had. Now if only the church could make sermons as interesting as monty python then we would be going every sunday.
Sorry about that. It was just a stupid little statement from a silly little man which got the gears in my brain working too much.
