On saturday i took my car to get it's MOT and it failed, so i took it back on the monday to get it fixed and i popped up to croydon from oxted train station, a station i spent many an hour on as a kid, going to school or college. Anyway for the first time in ages i got the metro, and i read it with a new, more educated head. Something stood out in the letters page, something which has probably been rubbished by many people by now. Comments by me are in brackets. Mr Andrew Harris of Essex says "every Islamic terrorist or suspect arrested since september 11 [i'm guessing he means 2001 rather than any other year] has been of Asian descent. Yet, when we have a bomb scare on airliners, white women are made to taste their child's milk [from a bottle, he also fails to mention. I mean could you imagine a woman trying to suck her own nipple? 'Scuse me, im just going to the toilet]. We are disrupting everyone for the sake of political correctness when resources could be better spent only searching those belonging to previously suspected ehnic groups."
Now i've mentioned the whole letter as printed in the Metro, just so i can't be accused of missing anything or misquoting him although the paper editors could have cut his letter down. My first point is that i do seem to recall a white man, recently being converted from christianity to islam, was among those arrested. Secondly Richard Reed, the attempted shoe bomber of a few years ago, i do believe was of british descent. So going by his workings out, every white and black bloke should be searched (does he include a full strip search and body cavity search?). Thirdly "previously suspected ethnic groups", what does this mean? Are the far right wing christian types who have among their members had that bloke who blew up an FBI building in america many years ago included? If so do we therefore include anyone who looks christian? Are the followers of the dalai lama's religion included considering china (i think) believe him to be a terrorist? What about the IRA and anyone who is against animal testing? I mean they have blown up and threatened to blow up stuff. You know what i think? Firstly, that him and people like him (especially the BNP who want to kick out anyone who doesn't look british) are absolute twats, and secondly everything would be super if aeroplanes were banned. Just ban them. We have a ferry (or train) service to the rest of europe available, and if anyone ever needed to go further then we should get funding scientists to create a teleporter ala star trek. All of the worlds problems can be answered by watching sci-fi.
In other news i managed to find my way to and away from maidstone today. Got some stuff done in the library and then left, but not before once again remembering why i don't like the burger king there. They always mess up my order, today giving my diet coke instead of regular. The strange thing though is that i think it tastes better than coke zero. This could be just because they use less syrup and more soda when mixing it, to save money. I dont know if they actually do it but it wouldn't surprise me.
In more interesting news i finally got a film downloaded which i have been looking for for ages. It is called "La Cabina" and is spanish although that doesn't really matter because most of the acting is in the emotions shown by the bloke in the phone box. Basically it is about a bloke who gets trapped in a phone box which turns out to be a horrifying prospect as the film ends. I think it has a much more morally story behind it than what is apparent. Great film though, although knowing the ending did kinda spoil it for me. I first saw it as a young un and it has stuck with me ever since.
