I really should be working on various assignments, but the procrastination bug's a bitch, ain't it?
Time for Blog #2, written out in Notepad because Word scews with the text, and the actual Internet is down for the first time this year. Bellsouth is to my surprise, a decent DSL provider. Up to this point, no problems, which is something I'm still getting used to after the tour I took from Hell and back with AOL. I really, really hope whoever leads AOL is shot in the face with a shotgun. Either that, or his computer crashes thanks to an alien virus that some asshole turned angry geek ala Office Space in tech. repair made up during his lunch break.
That would make me very happy, though the pain I went through with AOL was much more severe than a shotgun blast to the face...
To other news, the first blog. The response? Better than I expected. Not many people I know actually write a blog, anyway. Thanks for the comments, keep it coming.
SOmeone brought up the use of the n-word in my last blog. Double-standard, folks, that special blog is for the next time I come into contact with a racial issue. TBH, I haven't seen one in awhile. Could it be that America is actually...respecting people of other skin colors?
Looking at Hillary versus Obama, as my mom's friend put it the other day...
"Why does America need a black muslim leading the country?". I guess not.
This week looks to be a bitch, as I have a midterm and a test in my worst subject ever, Math. That alone probably will ruin my entire week. As if I didn't already have enough to deal with in terms of deciding a good path for the future. That, and the fact that it hurts more and more to pay for gasoline, thanks to the humanitarian, kind and honest oil companies of this nation. When it takes 40 bucks to fill a tank of a COROLLA....
That's all, really. This weekend wasn't very productive, but hey, that's how I like it sometimes. I needed to slow down and catch my breath before heading in head first into "crunch month", just a few more weeks and Summer will be upon us. 3 Days a week of working and the rest for relaxation? Gotta love that shit.
New York City in June? Gotta love that shit. It's been way too long since I've been to my true home, and it'll be nice to really kick it old-school with everyone.
Without further adue, as I promised, my first CD Review.
Trilla - Rick Ross.
Oh, for the record, I am an inhumane, ruthless bastard when it comes to music. If you think I wasn't already enough of a perfectionist...when I take off points off of Lupe Fiasco's masterpieces for making too many breaths of air, that's when you know you've got a perfectionist. Enjoy, and if you disagree (not that many of the people I know actually listen to ROSSSS!) I'd love to argue you and slap you in the face with my giant 2Pac defense =D
Trilla. 2nd album. Port of Miami, which I also own is a decent album. I mean, yes, each and every one of the songs deals with drugs, which I don't do mucj of, but the beats and the general style of Ross's rapping actually makes it listenable. For Trilla, I was expecting more of the same, with a huge boost of bullshit provided by Miami's own DJ Khaled.
You know what? I was completely correct.
Granted, the album does touch on more this time...cash money...women...riches...Maybachs, oh, and Rick Ross ego boost promotion. Which is on the album of pretty much every damn rapper nowadays. From T.I., to Jay, to 50, this is the meat of their albums.
Social issues?
"Oh, no no no, that will NEVER make it to Y100 in the morning, I want to hear my lame ass song with a lame ass T-Pain hook right after the phonetap!"
Unfortunately for Ross, I have not ONCE heard any of his songs on Y100. Nope, not even "The Boss", which features NONE OTHER THAN T-PAIN! Mission Failed, time to hit up Mickey D's and stuff your face with fries. I'm just kidding.
Nice guy, though, told me he appreciated me coming out and showin support. For those 5 seconds, I felt like more than a fan. Then, those 5 seconds were up, and big beefy cop was pushing me along. I won't take it personally, I mean, he did manage to spell my name correctly on the CD cover he signed, which is more than I can say for some rappers...then again, before I went up to him, some employee made us write our names on a yellow post-it to hand to Ross. There was NO POSSIBLE WAY he could have missed it. Way to go, Hooked on Phonics!
Back to the CD itself. Again, production makes the album. Ross went to the right people, including The Runners, J.R. Rotem, JUSTICE League, Justice League in particular handled the three best tracks on the whole CD! Ross also backs his big ass up with other great rappers. Young Jeezy, Jay-Z join him, but the best singular guest apperance has to go to Lil' Wayne on Luxury Tax. As always, Weezy completely steals the song away from Ross and makes it his own. He murders his verse, which is cut short, tragically. Seriously, that song made me hungry for the Carter 3, which comes out in May...damn, I can't wait for that one.
So basically, the album is typical of a Miami Rapper. Money, bitches, Maybachs and drugs. Average.
3.5/5
Next time, a bit more effort in what you're rapping about, okay, Ricky? don't put a sticker on the album that says TRILLEST ALBUM OF DA YEAR when it is like a plate of food left out too long - good, but cold.
For the record, he gets an extra point 5 for not having that cuban asshole Pitbull on the CD.
I'm willing to leave it up to the reader(s) to pick the next one.
ANY 2Pac Album
Lupe Fiasco - Any of his two CD's
Soulja Boy - Souljaboytellem.com (I downloaded this one to see if it would live up to the hype)
Reader's choice - Got something in Hip/Hop & R&B you want me to take a listen at? List it.
That's all folks.
Brian
They said I couldn't play football, was too small
They said I couldn't play basketball - wasn't tall
But, started rappin and now every day I ball - Weezy on Luxury Tax
