living with the military

So there could be a hitch with the wedding date because of the military..grr. :-/ For all of you military spouses out there, I'm sure you'll know what I mean by the end of this post. I am prepared to deal with the hassles and setbacks that comes with being a military wife, but I didn't think it would come so quick. So here's the potential news...

I got a call from James earlier last week and he sounded rather down. I asked what was going on and he told me that with schooling, both for Space and Missles and the 2LT school in Alabama, he would still be in school when our date of 9-22-07 falls. The thing with most military schooling (this one in particular), is that once you are in school, you CANNOT take time off...at all....whatsoever. In the recent past, they have been sending the 2LT's after they are done with their specialty school to this 6 week course in Alabama. Well, the 6 month (or so) Space and Missle school doesn't start until Feb so he would get done sometime in July or August. Add the 6 week school on top of that and you have yourself a wedding date that is during Alabama school.

So there are 3 options:
1) There is talk of having some of the 2LT's head to Alabama in Jan. James got his name in the hat and it's a luck of the draw thing.
2) There is talk about doing away with the Alabama school.
3) There is talk about doing the Alabama school after you are to your first duty station and settled in.

Go figure, all talk and rumors. Oh well. Just gotta laugh sometimes at how well they do things. :-)

The hardest part of all this isn't the fact that the military is being a pain with information, that I can deal with no problem cause I've expected it and have seen it before firsthand. The thing that is frustrating me is that we won't know anything until a month or so before the wedding date we have set right now, if we are lucky.
Once James in on casual status starting later on this week, we should know if he was able to get a slot in the Alabama schooling starting, if not, we will just have to see how it goes.

Anyway, that's all for now. :-)
