a/n - This one-shot is connected to 'First Stop: Kame' but can be read on its own. I love Ryo/Uchi, they are my second favourite pairing after Akame so I wanted to write something for them. It's not great and similar storylines have probably been used before but here it is anyway. I hope you all like it.
As they walked down the street the night air failed to cool down their hot faces and happy hearts. The joy of having their friend back had made them all happier than they could imagine.
Except for one.
For this person the happiness of having one of his best friends back was huge…but there was still an unexplainable feeling in his heart. His friend was with them tonight but there was still someone missing, a person who was pivotal to his complete happiness.
“Ryo? You okay?” Yamapi asked as he slowed to match his friend’s pace. Ryo tried his best fake smile but it was useless against one of his closest friends.
“Go to him,” Pi said quietly and calmly while facing ahead. Ryo looked up at him in surprise. Did he know?
As if reading his thoughts Pi answered.
“Don’t try telling me you don’t know where he’ll be, I know you better than that Ryo-chan.” Pi smiled in a smug way that almost made him look like Ryo. The shorter man looked at the floor and tried to hold back the temptation to run.
Yamapi groaned in frustration…which didn’t go unheard.
“He’s not gone yet?” Ryo looked up and saw that Kame and Jin had stopped and were looking at him in surprise and obvious confusion.
“I told him he should go but he won’t listen,” Pi moaned with a pout. Jin grinned and walked back to Ryo.
“Thanks for coming with me tonight, I really appreciate it but you obviously don’t want to be here do you?” The words suggested hurt but looking into Jin’s happy eyes he knew that his friend understood.
“You could tell?” Ryo asked as he turned to Kame who had thus far remained silent. The younger man of the famous pair just smirked.
“Ryo, if even Bakanishi could tell then it’s obviously easy to see,” Kame answered. Jin pouted at his lover but Ryo knew he wouldn’t be annoyed with him for long.
He remained silent, thinking of what to do…even though he knew what he wanted to do. Would that person want to see him? Would it make them sad to see him?
“He’ll want to see you.” Ryo’s eyes went wide when he heard Yamapi’s words.
Freaking hell… he thought to himself, suspecting his friend was actually psychic…
Coming to a decision he finally nodded.
“Say bye to the others for me,” he asked Kame who immediately nodded. As his three friends watched, he began to run…
…
He was breathless by the time he reached the door. He lifted a weary and shaking hand and managed to knock on the door, though he wasn’t sure if it was loud enough. He legs were slowly giving way beneath him as he panted heavily. Realising, as he slumped to the floor, that he probably shouldn’t have run the several miles it took to get here, Ryo looked feebly at the door, hearing it begin to open just as he passed out…
…
When his eyes slowly slid open Ryo immediately wondered where the blanket had come from. Not that he was complaining as the warm item draped over him was doing to well to keep him snug and warm. It kind of reminded Ryo of his childhood…not that he would ever admit that.
He pulled himself up and looked around. Realisation hit him immediately and he remembered that he had at least reached the doorstep of this house. What had happened after that?
“You passed out.” Ryo’s eyes widened in surprise. For once, it was not Yamapi reading his thoughts. He turned around hesitantly, full of guilt and came face to face with the one he had ran so many miles to see.
Uchi smiled at him warmly, grinning slightly at the way he had found his friend. He had wanted to see Ryo, but having the shorter man passed out on his doorstep had not been what he had had in mind. But for now, it would do.
“I’m so sorry,” Ryo said sadly and Uchi smiled again.
“Don’t worry,” he assured Ryo as he went to sit beside him. He sat with a few inches between them but Ryo immediately closed the gap.
“I’m sorry I came so late in the evening…Jin came back today.”
Uchi nodded with a grin.
“How is he? Same as always?”
“Of course!” Ryo laughed and Uchi rested his head on his lover’s shoulder. Ryo responded by holding his lover closer. The gap in Ryo’s heart that had been there for the whole night was slowly starting to heal and it healed faster as Uchi snuggled closer to him.
“I’ve missed you,” Uchi said softly. Ryo smiled.
“I’ve missed you too,” he answered. He placed two fingers under Uchi’s chin and raised his head slightly. Ryo leaned forward and gently pressed his lips against Uchi’s and both their eyes drifted close as they melted into their own world, just the two of them together.
When they finally separated they were still in that world.
“Won’t you get in trouble if they catch you with me?” Uchi suddenly asked, concern filling his face. Ryo’s face was a picture of stubbornness and determination.
“I don’t care…” He pulled Uchi into his arms again before adding, “No matter what happens, good or bad, easy or hard, I’m always gonna be by your side.”
Uchi didn’t see the point in arguing and the words filled him with too much happiness to answer. He just relaxed even further into Ryo’s embrace, the pair falling asleep in each other’s arms, sleeping the rest of the night together…
