strike!
I didn't go to work yesterday, curtesy of the MTA strike...so that was fun...but today the novelty wore thin as I had to walk from the east village and over the Manhattan Bridge to DUMBO. It's not actually such an awful walk, and it only took a little more than an hour, but doing it twice in one day and the thought of having to do it again tomorrow = NOT SO FUN! I think I am lucking out tomorrow, though...my coworker went to Queens and got his car and I think he'll be driving another coworker and I in tomorrow. whoo hoo! The cabbies are outrageous - they charge almost $20 to go to brooklyn (and that is $20 each passenger), and no one would take us to Brooklyn, because they didn't think they could get the four passengers they needed to come back in to the city. Dude. I don't know whose genius contingency plan it was to allow the cabbies to go by this zone system, but it makes taking a cab anywhere absolutely out of the question.
My dad got in from Madagascar yesterday...amazingly enough, it only took him 2 hours to come in from JFK...considering the circumstances that's pretty good! Nice to have a full house...we played many rounds of Spades tonight (sean just learned and kept forgetting that he can only throw spades if he's out of the suit...doofus!)
