Happy birthday

May 13, 2007 10:23

I haven't been doing the birthday shout-outs this year, but I think this one deserves a mention. He's been with me through thick and thin, and without him, I just wouldn't be here today. Happy birthday, me!

This is my alphabetical birthday (I'm 26). I've passed my combinatorial (24), and my number-theoretical (25) birthdays. I've only got my cubical (27), perfect (28) and my prime birthday (29) to go, then it's a scary world beyond that. In sociological terms I've passed a point of no return and gone past my quarter-century (though, to be honest, every day you've gone past the point of no return unless your name is Hiro Nakamura). It worried me a lot more last year about getting old. This year I'm more pragmatic: if I'm worried about my accomplishments at this age, then I should get off my butt and achieve stuff instead of worrying about time ticking away because there's no way to stop that (again, unless you're Hiro).

I got:
  • Some money from my work friends to put towards a writer's retreat (yay)
  • A car registration and more money for the retreat from my parents
  • This interesting book called The Key by Junichiro Tanizaki from Danielle (el_moofo)
  • Some moneyz and a card from my grandmother (mum's side)
  • A great concert last night from Missy Higgins (which was also carbon-neutral, go Missy!)
I also got loud clomping down the hallways while I was trying to sleep in from Dima. Murderous rage: it's the gift that keeps on giving.

I also got a log of chocolate pistachio nougat from myself. I'm about to walk down to the city, have some nice luxurious breakfast somewhere by myself, read some Key, and hopefully not be flooded by mothers day participants. I might look into nice places to retreat (and write) later today. Then tonight it's Eurovision at Danielle's. Good times.

birthday
