North Carolina Came and went

This weekend, in order to feel productive and step out of the city for a while, I decided to help out a friend of mine and take a cross country road trip to North Carolina. Basically I was helping her move into her new place, riding along the way too keep company and pick up heavy things once we got there.

I made a few new friends including Pensky the big yellow truck and Zed the Buzzard. Zed got wrapped around our grill and wiper blades early on and we were inseparable ever since. Well, inseparable until i scraped him off the front of the truck with a bit of broken glass just before we returned it.

Things of note: Public bathrooms across the country all seem to have doors that open to the inside. Wouldnt it make more since to have them open outward so that you are allowed to enter with dirty hands and then exit without having to touch a handle rather than washing your hands only then to realize that you should probably get another piece of paper towel just to open the door. Maybe a higher power decided a long time ago that public restrooms should operate in this way; sullying the hands of the clean to humble the washed masses, arrogant in their sanity, and bring them and the plebeian dirty handed folk of the earth closer together in a germy sort of way.

Also, Sean was right about the mid-southern east coast. The land is beautiful with rolling hills, slight mountains and farmland. He also had a point when he described the people. Oddly... generally... totally unattractive in appearance. weird.

Anyway the trip, asside from the physical labor involved in moving all the personal belngings my friend aquired over the years into her new residence, was an all expenses paid vacation. All I spent over the weekend was $.59 on some sunflower seeds traveling up and $10 on a philly cheese steak on the way back. That was a real philly cheesesteak BTW... in Philly! I was pretty excited when I learned I had a one hour layover in the city of brotherly...cheesesteak and even more so when I found a place I could get one in the airport. After that it was smooth flying back to N.O. and my ride back home.

All in all a good trip though I do not think it is a place I would like to live. I hear good things about Ashville, unfortunately we were mostly around the Raleigh/Ashboro area. Ill have to go to this highly recommended city to be sure that N.C. isnt for me but where I was seemed to lack color I guess.

Other cities of interest: Seattle, Portland, Austin, Vancouver as well as somewhere in Central/South America, Germany and a return trip to the British Isles. I dont think Ill be able to take any more long distance trips anytime soon, but that is the wish list in case any of you want to give me an early Christmas/late Birthday present.
