I am victorious! 18 months after graduation, my diploma is finally in the mail! It's a Festivus miracle!
After seeing a friend's diploma nicely displayed on her wall I remembered I have yet to receive mine. What I did receive shortly after graduation was a small bill, which I believed to be paid over a year ago. So, I emailed the Registrar's office Monday night to see what the problem was. An email was sent to me saying there was a balance on my account, and when that was covered I would get my diploma. Like a responsible (former) student I check my NMU account information online, and there is no balance on my account -- it actually shows the date the university received my check.
Confused, I call Student Services at 8:30 this morning to inquire. The nice woman tells me I'm not crazy, I don't owe money, and transfers my call to the Registrar's office. The woman who answers the phone looks up my account information, finds the email I sent and the response sent to me (they print out all their correspondence -- how clever) and agrees that there is nothing wrong with my account. Apparently the woman who emailed me yesterday is unable to pull up the account information of former students and just assumed I owed the university money instead of properly handling the situation.
The woman I spoke to on the phone, however, was unable to offer any reason for why my diploma has been sitting in a file in their office 18 months after the bill was paid.
screwgie.
