many wheels have begun motioning over the last 36 hours. mostly pertaining to interest from a district in columbia, south carolina. i'm not sure what will come of that interest, but i've been busy filling out forms, requesting transcripts and trying to obtain south carolina teaching certification.
then, out of nowhere, this afternoon i get an email from the principal at otsego middle school. otsego appears to be a little burg in between k-zoo and g.r. i had applied for an english position with the district's alternative high school, but nothing came of that. well, apparently they have quite a few sixth graders and are creating a new position at the middle school -- 4 sections of language arts and 1 social studies. i'm almost certain english certification covers the language arts, but i doubt history and political science covers social studies, but the principal didn't seem to mind. all he asked was if i was 'highly qualified,' and since i passed my mttc's i told him yes; i hope that wasn't a lie.
anywho, i'm incredibly nervous, because i have not had many formal education interviews, and none at the middle school level. i'm calling back tomorrow to chat up a secretary and try to get the details. i hope i don't have to prepare a lesson. i've never had to do that for an interview, and i don't want to start now. i can teach students, but something about having to teach other adults just freaks me out.
there is going to be some serious interview prep going on this weekend. i'll take time off to watch my spartans annihilate those uppity bastards at notre dame (who didn't even bother to show up for their game against michigan last week -- thanks, boys.) and to enjoy a wedding, but other than that i'll be refining my philosophy of education (anyone have a good one?) and trying to mold my background and experiences into some impressive anecdotes.
