summer projects around the house

Can you tell I've been downloading pictures from my bb??

So this summer I've done a number of non-sca related projects around the home.

The first one is a revamp of our fireplace.  I tiled the cement hearth in limestone and slate and thus covered the big crack that was right in the middle of it.  I also bought a can of the high heat spray paint and painted the fireplace screen from pitted bronze to a shiny black.  I was also going to paint the wood surround because it was old and dingy looking.  But before painting it I decided to try one of the magic erasers on it and OMG it brightened the white paint several shades.

total cost, about $50, and I took the measurements to the store and they cut the tile there in the store for me for free.

I was visiting my mom and they were getting rid of all of my step grandmothers belongings which had been in the barn since she passed away more than a year ago.  My step dad asked me if I wanted this little dresser and I said yes intending to take it home for my brother in law to use.  Well I decided to try and sand it down and refinish it and it turned out beautiful.  Took about a week to do the whole project, including 5 coats of stain of two different colors.  I wanted a deep chocolate color and all I could find was a deep red color or a very dull dark brown that was almost black.  So I put on coats of the red color first and then put the dark brown on over it, hand rubbing it in every coat.  It came out a little more red than I wanted, but I really like it.  Rubbing it in makes sure the color penetrates and doesn't lay on the top and block the grain of the wood.

Post-update: the f$*@king before picture wouldn't upload and I had to spend 45 minutes trying to convert it to something that would.  I don't know why that one wouldn't upload when all the other pics from my bb did not problem.  aaaaarrrrrrr
