so i think i figured out what the problem is with my computer. i was messing with it the other day and i noticed that when i turn it on, a yellow light turns on. the light is labeled; "ram led", so that makes me think that my ram finally went bad. this is understandable considering the ram is originally from one of the old OSG computers, and has been in numerous machines over the years. if someone has an extra stick of 512mb DDR ram lying around, it would be greatly appreciated if i could borrow it for a day to make sure that it's my ram that's bad, and not something else. if not, that's cool too.
things have been okay lately. not the best, but not bad. i'm eagerly awaiting my DASC, which should be shipped this week. i'll be mad if it doesn't, but it might not matter in the end anyway because when i asked my parents about aaron's party, they didn't seem like they were too excited about letting me go. they seem to think, no matter what i show/tell them, that all people who are over the age of 20 drink/go to bars/have wild parties. it's like they're living in the 70's/80's or something. it's that hard for them to believe that we're just a bunch of nerds who play video games. they seem like they're convinced that i hang out with a bunch of drunks or something, just because they're over/at/around the age of 21. god dammit.
saw tim maides yesterday, that was pretty jawsome. i explained to domo that everyone in the world knows who tim maides is, simply because he's tim maides, and he's an enigma.
the director of pi and requiem for a dream is coming out with a new film called "the fountain" sometime this year. it's supposed to be a story that spans 1000 years and deals with a plethora of human toils and pleasures. just from looking at the trailer, i can't fucking wait. i love movie trailers that really don't tell you anything about the movie at all. the island was the same way, but the movie really didn't turn out to be as good as the trailer made it out to be, in that case.
here's a link to the apple trailer:
http://www.apple.com/trailers/wb/thefountain/ there's also a neo-noir (as in, film noir) film that i recently heard about that looks VERY amazing. it's called brick, and the main character is played by the actor who played the main kid in angels in the outfield. for those of you who don't know, film noir is a style of flim which is usually crime-based. the characters are usually archetypal; the jealous husband, the crooked lawyer, the hero detective, etc. another thing i've noticed about film noir is that the characters sometimes mumble, or say their lines very quickly. an example of this would be in a noir-style mob movie where one mobster says to another mobster "i'm gonna kill ya, see" (you know to add the typical mobster-voice inflection). i'll just link to the wiki article on the genre, since it does a much better job of explaining it.
anyway, i digress. what strikes me as interesting about this movie is that it's not set in an adult world, it's set in a highschool. it's exactly like many older films done in this same style, but it's about high school crime rings and other things of that nature. the acting looks VERY good and the film looks exceptionally gritty, which means i'm sold.
i guess to put the genre into perspective, awesome movies such as; reservoir dogs, the matrix, gattaca, blade runner, the big lebowski, and fargo, are all movies that fall into the neo-noir category.
