Teacher asked us to do an in-class essay in about ten minutes. I read mine to the class; one response was "You read that off the Internet, didn't you?" (Another, sadly, was "I'm not reading mine after that." *sigh*)

Ah, it's so easy to churn out 1500 words on security vs. liberty...

(I just had to decide to drop the focus on REAL ID and attack the general topic instead.)

Why did they spend so much effort teaching us about the fifty American state capitals? Wouldn't that time have been better spent teaching us about the fifty largest American cities? Is this quirk a result of the fact that our schools are run by the government?

(Where "us" means "us Americans".  Sorry, international folken.)
