this past weekend was a good one for music. saturday i got to see hot cross, breather resist, shipping news and melt banana. the show was definitely top notch. ive never been able to get into melt banana on record, but live they are really awesome. shipping news was amazing. god i love that band. i picked up their new record and its stellar as i figured it would be. breather was good as usual and they played a new song which is a bit different, more... something, and it was awesome, but whoever was doing sound basically turned the guitar off and it sounded mostly like bass and drums. still good though. hot cross was really good. probably the best ive seen them out of the last 4 times ive seen them. one of the guitarists quit and they sound way better as a four piece in my opinion. less opportunities for wanky guitar parts.
sunday was funeral diner, ampere, equal and ultra, and viking. i was worried about enough kids showing up for the show, but after i figured up the door and everything there were about 46 paid and few kids that i let in for free. so i think at the peak there was around 55 kids there. not too bad. i felt i was able to pay the bands alright and the venue was very pleased at how well we handled the show and how on top of things we were. that made me feel really good. i had a lot of awesome help from some great people like chubbs, a. rains, and everyone else in equal and ultra. they all did just as much as i did to make sure that show went on the way it did. with people like them backing me up, i can't really fuck up too bad. but yeah the show, ampere was loud as fuck and so good. i didnt really get to watch their set though, so im just going by how it sounded. funeral diner was amazing. they sounded so tight and great.. basically the best ive ever seen them. i was quite enthralled by their performance. i got to pick up their new LP and the ampere/welcome the plague year 5", so awesome. everyone came back here after the show and everyone hung out and talked and whatnot. it was a great conclusion to the weekend. i am really fortunate to have met all those people in those two bands in my life. all of them are sincere, amazing people who i love talking to. just doing small things like going to the grocery store or to kinkos really made for a great night. i can't say enough good things about them.
ive been listening to a whole lot of karate lately. today i bought the big bear cd and im pretty stoked about it. ive been waiting for this to come out for like two months. what ive heard so far is awesome. im also listening to the new unsane record "blood run" and so far i haven't been disappointed. still heavy, still have a groove to them, and are still creative. i wish i could go see them, but they closest they are coming is chicago.
speaking of chicago, i went there last weekend and i was detained in the airport in louisville as a potential terrorist. apparently it was right there on my ticket and i didnt even know it. it was awesome. i got searched and all my stuff was swabbed for explosives and they really checked out my ipod. i might have had to stay home if they said i couldnt have taken it with me. i had fun up there for a few days and bought some good records pretty cheap.
i wish my car was running. i think its been like three months now. two and a half months of that time is my fault. i didnt do anything about my car when i should have been. now its at the shop and they just arent really saying anything about it. i would try and call them, but im such a pushover about that shit that i'd basically agree to whatever they said. but yeah, if it was fixed i could go out of town more and do things which is always a plus. however, my mom did buy me a bike. im pretty stoked about this. i just need to get it from etown to here. then i will hopefully be riding my bike around a lot more. and hopefully by then it will have warmed back up again. seriously.. going from the 80's to the 40's in a day and then not warming up past like 60 for a week or two sucks. i was enjoying the warm weather and now its back to feeling like its late fall. fuck this shit.. i need some warmth.
i ate too much tonight and i feel like my death is coming soon. i hate overeating, but damnit i was so hungry.
i need to get a new job. kinkos is already poised to fuck me over. they cut everyones hours down to barely full time. some weeks i dont even work full time hours, and yesterday i found out that they are cutting payroll again. i dont quite get whats going on, but its terrible. they really just think we can do whatever with no help whatsoever. it gets stressful and its just unnecessary. there isnt a good reason why our payroll should get cut down so much and then get yelled at because we cant get anything done. good business practices. but yeah, derrick turned in my application to java brewing, next door. i hope that they feel like hiring me and giving me enough hours between a few stores. if they did, i'd be forever grateful. i dont want to get my hopes up though. i'll probably end up stuck at kinkos for the rest of my life.
