My comment (on FB):

I'm sorry. I've NEVER been looked at in a comic or gaming store and dismissed as not a customer. My current store has a girl working there. My old store always treated me and the other women patrons with respect. I've gotten into full geek Star Wars conversations with my old store.
I've called myself a feminist before. I DON'T CARE that I have to play a guy when I play Republic Commandos (cuz guess what, the characters are guys). The women in Gears of War can kick ass and take names just like the guys can (in fact, one is the sniper, and therefore more kick ass). I DON'T CARE that Harley Quinn is in a bra and corset because she's finally coming into her own as a character and getting out of Joker's shadow. I like how she looks.

Sure, it sucks that some women have encountered issues. But it's part of being in a minority. There are very few men at my college. Each one is likely viewed as eye candy or "dismissed" by someone as someone else's boyfriend. Is that a problem?

Geek boys are awkward. Geek girls need to deal with this. I learned to deal way back in high school. Pull up your big girl panties and deal.
