Wow, this is absolutely terrific! I was looking forward to it after we chatted about it, and it has met and exceeded all my expectations! I love Hakim...he comes across as a very sympathetic narrator, and an interesting person in his own right. All the characters feel multi-dimensional and fully formed; in other words, they're carrying the weight of a story that goes beyond mere foils for seeing Thorongil. And the setting feels so real... I doubt I've ever heard a more apt description of humidity. *g*

I'm really looking forward to more!

I'm so glad you like it so far! I've been playing with this a lot since we talked and have made a few tweaks (the biggest being that I moved it from the beginning of the Thorongil years to the end so I could get the frame story to work). I'm still fiddling with parts of the story, but I figured it was time to start posting (translation: I reserve the right to spam your inbox a little more;). I hope you like where this goes!
