Once again it is time for every one oh so favorite stories of stupid things I do! At work today I went in the back door to go do a show. Like any other day I felt along the wall to try and find the light switch so that I didn’t have to walk down the large hall in the dark. (Mind you, I am the only one at my work place that is incapable of doing it.) When I was feeling around in the utter dark I remembered how my teacher in my marine mammals class was talking about echolocation and that if you close your eyes and make one constant frequency you can hear it echo off walls and find your way in the dark. This is what blind people do a lot. I was feeling up for an adventure and thought it would be safe to try, seeing that I have been walking down the hall for 2 and a half years now and there is only one part of the wall that I could run into straight on and hurt myself. I stopped looking for the light and close my eyes and the journey began. I was walking very slowly at first making my little binging sound and listening very carefully. For all I knew it seemed to be working because I had not run in to anything yet, even thought I had never heard any echo. Being full of confidence I started to walk fast down the hall making my way to the other room when BAM! I walked head first in to the only wall I could off. With a hurt head and sadness at my lack of skills of echolocating, I opened my eyes and felt my way along the wall to the other end of the room. My advice to all for the day is unless you are a whale don’t try echolocating in the dark!
