FreakAngels

Having gone to the last WorldCon, it means I will be eligible to nominate for next year's Hugos.  And while I think I will leave the major categories to people more in touch, I have found a graphic novel that must be a contender.  It is called FreakAngels.

"Twenty-three years ago twelve strange children were born in England at exactly the same moment.  Six years ago the world ended.  This is the story of what happened next"

When the world ended England was flooded the FreakAngels took over Whitechapel and gathering other survivors built a community there. There are only eleven FreakAngels now, one having being expelled from the group.  They are all different and they all contribute in their own way to keep Whitechapel running.

Imagine if the Midwitch Cuckoos had made developed their powers more slowly.  What might they have become if for the most part they lived and loved just like everyone else, were brought up right.

The story is by Warren Ellis and the art by Paul Duffield.  It is NSFW or children having nudity sex, violence and swearing, but is a great read.  Unlike most comic books the people look true to life and the story so far is fascinating.  There are four books out so far but you can read the whole lot online at FreakAngels.com.  Episodes are released weekly(you get six pages per ep) and so far the comic is as far as Episode 115.  If you have the time it is well worth a look.
