A rare hello plus 100 words.

I know it has been a long time since I last posted here, but I didn't think it was that long!

Much has been happening (as I always seem to type) on many different levels, not the least of which has been relational and marital trauma.   My marriage is still together and I'm happy about that, and time will see if things progress upwards or downwards in the future.   Time's good like that...

This year I've been trying to re-embrace my artistic side, which got a little neglected for quite some time there, and rediscover my happiness.   It's an ongoing journey, which is cruising at the moment.   I perticularly wanted to start writing again, which I haven't done for a long time.   Finding some acquaintances of mine also were interested in it, I began to imagine and formulate a writing group.   It still hasn't formally started yet, but my mind has been working overtime developing prompts, projects, and the like.   This has been stimulating and uplifting for me, even though I still haven't been writing much.

And recently I rediscovered the 100 Words website.   Remember almost a year and a half ago when I'd occasionally post my 100-word creations?   Well, I'm back at them.   And enjoying it too.   Today's is below, with thanks to my friend Gary for inspiration for the topic.

Once upon a time, when fairytales held great importance, there was a man whose job it was to ensure that all children’s stories began with the words “Once upon a time.”

This wasn’t as simple as just tacking them before a story.   Not all opening sentences can simply have that prenunciation placed before and still make sense.   Sometimes it placed this man in the position of editor, needing to change and manipulate the opening sentence in the correct way.

And when he, as all writers sometimes face, fell victim to ‘writer’s block,’ well, it was hell.   Imagine: “Once upon a time…aaarrgghhh!”
