🎶...Drive until you lose the road
Or break with the ones you've followed🎶

Back when Vighn and I were 8 years old, we were walking along the riverside walkway with Aaron and Dave who were (and are) just a few years older, it was early springtime, and the rains were a bit slushy now and then. This day was mildly breezy, but the chewy rain had just finished falling. There was a couple of younger adults driving along on the road on the hillside above us, just crossing the bridge over the river, yelling loud enough that we could hear their argument even with the shushing of the tires, revving engine and the car's windows up. As we glanced, the car hit a slick patch at the edge of the bridge and went off the road into the river.

We waited, watching, and after a moment realized they weren't coming up like what we saw in the movies. Being that Aaron and Dave were both on the swim team at school, they dove in while Vighn and I ran to the pay phone and let the operator know what we'd just witnessed and where we were. The other two brought up an unconscious woman and man as we were hurrying back, and while Aaron began chest compressions on the man, Dave showed Vighn and I what to do to help the woman then administered the breathing on the man. As the paramedics arrived, both were coughing and wheezing, breathing on their own. Our brother Suns had given us a very valuable crash course lesson in a skill that would serve us well in the future, and all four of us were noted as "local heroes" though we slipped into the background area of the woodlands around the park as the police and media arrived. It was safer not to be known or recognized, especially for me and Aaron in those days, with the way our parents were toward us.

Even today, if it's brought up (like by the junior pharmacist - the couple's son - this morning as I was getting my battery of vaccinations for flu, shingles, et. al.)  any of the three of us still among the living can end up pretty embarrassed and uncomfortable. Because of that, it's not something I have ever really thought much about, but the Gold, Copper, Silver and Blazing Suns were heroes that saved lives back in our youth. And considering the woman was within her first trimester of pregnancy (the reason for their argument) and didn't lose the baby, it wasn't just the two of them, so my junior pharmacist where I go has a bit of hero worship and I always seem to forget that - my mind just wants to pass it off, so no one takes notice, just like when I was a kid - certain behaviors never change, even when the reasons behind them are long gone. It leaves me pondering on many things, today. I asked Aaron and Dave if they still do similar, and they gave me an affirmative. I wish I could find out what Vighn ever thought of it.

🎶Where did I go wrong? I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life🎶

The Golden Sun found something that made him even more luminous that day.
