This is the first time since I've had a live journal (8 years or so)that I completely forgot it existed. Usually I know it's there and I feel bad for not updating. I think facebook truly is killing LJ. It's not like blogging is going away but it seems like every new blog I'm linked to is not LJ. Sad?
I haven't been on the computer much outside of work because my right hand has been hurting. I had an appt w/ my primary doctor who took some x-rays and referred me to an orthopedic person for next week. I'm guessing it's something like tendonitis since the dr. said it's probably inflamed. It's using the mouse that does it. I was off of work last week and just had a dull ache, nothing more. Right now it hurts... (and yet I type!)
We had our first ThanksMas last week, combining Thanksgiving and Christmas with Jason's siblings since his sister and her family have moved out of state and can only come up for one holiday. They're here two whole weeks though, so we've seen them and the twin nephews a bunch. We draw names for gift exchange btwn the siblings (7 of us). It has degenerated into gift cards the past couple of years, so we thought a theme might get things interesting. We chose gifts starting with the letter S since all of us have S last names (3 different ones!). I'm impressed that everyone stuck with it, even if it got creative:
I got a SLOW cooker, the fashion book by Christian SIRIANO and it was wrapped in paper with SPOTS on it (that cracked me up).
One of Sis-in-laws got a book wrapped in SARAN wrap..haha
I bought bro-in-law SAM Adams Winter Ale mix (huge case from Costco), SUMMER SAUSAGE and a SNOWMAN gift card from Borders b/c the design book that started with S that he wanted was out of stock.
It was fun, we'll have to think of a new theme next year.
I got the turkey carcass and am going to make soup from it. I've never done this and it sounds thrilling. THRILLING! I was looking at Williams-Sonoma's luxurious kitchen loot in a catalog today drooling over it. I am loving cooking more and more. But I will pass on the $300 (!) slow cooker... I'm a bit cheap for that, but I do not underestimate the value of some good knives and pans.
Most of my cooking lately has been from Martha Stewart's Everyday Food magazine. If you like to cook and haven't read it, you should definitely try it, it's wonderful. The recipes are simple (thus, everyday food) but still with an air of sophistication. Most everything I've made has been excellent with a couple exceptions. Lots of ideas for vegetables and the design layout is pretty and not cluttered. A whole year is only 10 bucks, I think I got it for free from some points program like coke points or online surveys, I don't remember.
That's all for now. Have a wonderful holiday season if I neglect to write here soon!!
