Summer holiday week one

It's been pretty cool so far. Duncan finished school on Tues, and I took the rest of the week off to spend some time with him.

Yesterday we went into Nottingham to sort out some things with the banks for the mortgage, and get a few jobs done. After all the boring stuff, we went to the Nottingham Riviera to play. Every summer, the council builds a beach in the market square so the kids have a chance to play in the sand. It's pretty cool. There's a 'Funderworld' playpark bit so we visited a few rides. Duncan went up on a mini Go-Ape thing and loved it. He was scampering about all over the ropes.

Later we took ourselves out to the country park to pick some of the cherries that are growing in abundance there. He made his stash into cherry juice which was very tasty. I froze mine, and then added them to Malibu. They are steeping in the bottles now, and I'm hoping they'll turn out to be very tasty indeed.

Today we went to Splash Landings at Alton Towers. We got a season ticket to A.T. earlier in the year and had thought that S.L. was included. Apparently not, as we discovered on arrival. Never mind, we still had a great deal of fun. After we'd had enough of the water (4 hours of it) we took ourselves off to A.T. for a while. Considering it's the holidays, the place was fairly quiet. I suppose the combination of Wednesday and a drizzly start to the day kept the numbers down. We had a blast all round.

Now I'm shattered and about to quietly collapse with my book.

holidays, duncan
