Fluffy Movie Squeeing... sort of

Jun 11, 2010 15:53

So here's one of those 'fluffy' movie posts I promised in my previous entry.

Warning: by 'fluffy' I hope you don't mistake it to mean this will be all sweetness and lollipops. It won't. You'll soon see why.

The past few days have been awash with Geek!Movie news. From it being all but cemented in stone that Joss Whedon will helm the Avengers movie, to the 'news'(duh) that Breaking Dawn will be split into two films, to The Hobbit seeming to finally be lining up its ducks for production... and now apparently after the next 800 films in his lineup, Guillermo del Toro is on tap to write and produce another Van Helsing movie. Not a sequel to the oh-so-terrible Hugh Jackman movie (Sommers you can do better than that you bastard!), but a new entry into the world of Dracula-inspired movies. Yeah. We need more of those. Let's keep telling the story wrong and never, ever tell it write and let people keep believing Coppola's Crock-of-Shit 'interpretation' is the novel transformed for screen. I like del Toro as a filmmaker, don't get me wrong, but seriously? We can keep throwing millions and millions and MILLIONS of dollars at vampire movies and no one *cough*me*cough* can get funded to make the ultimate vampire movie the way it should be made?

Speaking of vampire movies, and remakes, another vampire movie is getting a new twist courtesy of former Buffy writer Marti Noxon. They're remaking Fright Night, with Anton Yelchin (love 'im), Colin Farrell (hurl), Toni Collette (yay)... and David Tennant. No, he's not the vampire. Farrell is *eyeroll* Tennant is going to be the kooky dark magician who claims to know all about vampires... like Van Helsing meets Criss Angel. Close your eyes and imagine that for a moment. Excited? Fuck knows I am.

Oh yeah... and they're making a new series of Torchwood. I am actually kind of excited since it's a US/UK co-production with Davies as showrunner and will have Barrowman and Myles starring. Only downside really is also its upside, which is that instead of being a network series it will be on pay cable. That's great for the show and sucky for me. See, in order to get Starz I have to change my entire DirecTV package, which I don't want to do because it will cost more, and then add Starz... which will cost even more. *sigh*
(That sigh is because The Tudors couldn't get me to do that. SDoaCG couldn't get me to do that. Any number of shows I really wanted to see couldn't get me to do that. For Torchwood, I'll probably do it.)

Not in news, but in TV!Squee land, BURN NOTICE IS BACK YAAAAAAY! Leverage comes back next Sunday. Royal Pains is back, too. I heart my cable shows.
