I'd like to point out that geek is as geek does. And I'm not the only one who does it. In fact, many more high-profile geeks show their geek colors through geek jokes and references all the time.
Today I finished the collection of short stories written by the members of the Highlander cast and crew. It's fan fiction with funding - and written by the people who knew that world best. Within those stories, one of the producers wrote a tale that, like Highlander itself, drew on history and incorporated it into the show's mythology. In this case, a rogue watcher's brother warns MacLeod (at a hockey game in Toronto) he is being hunted. The good brother dies in a car 'accident' that night. The name of the good samaritan watcher? Tim Horton.
Yes, that Tim Horton. Who actually was at that game and died that night in a car accident.
The other, more amusing reference snuck its way into last night's Leverage. While discussing available fake IDs, Nate comes up with three: Peter Davison, Sylvester McCoy, and Tom Baker. And 'crazy, wacky Jane's' alias? Sarah Jane.
There are at least three of you who should get that joke.
Both of these make me feel better about making a subtle reference to Tyrone Wells' 'Hate Song' in my novel :)
Also, thanks to a certain someone, I went back and read a few past 'movies in fifteen minutes' this morning. Including Golden Compass, which I hadn't read before, and Goblet of Fire, which I haven't read in quite a while. My favorite part of GoF in 15m? HARRY: There was Some Leather Jacket Guy! With some chavvy blonde! They got in a police box and flew away!
CROUCH: Oh, this is useless-the boy’s clearly sustained some kind of blow to the head. Hi ho Ministry, away!

We now return you to your regularly scheduled lives, which I hope are going better than mine currently is. And hey, if life sucks right now, just think - you could have gotten your brain bashed in by a metal pipe. :)
