This weekend has been horrible!
I just don't understand how a person can do something like this?! How can someone be that cruel?! I mean, how can you shoot more than 80 teenagers?! One thing is to to plant a bomb near a government building, but executing more than 80 kids and teenagers that a whole other level of cruel. Of course, the bomb is bad too, don't get me wrong, but I just don't understand how anyone can just go to a camp full of politically active kids, kids that care and are passionate, kids full of visions and hopes and dreams, and just execute them. There are no words for how fucked up that guy is. And, how horrible it must be for the kids who survived this as well. Imagine having gone through that. Imagine having a guy, dressed as a police man, just shooting at you and your friends. My heart goes out to all of those kids on that island and their loved ones. And of course all of those who was killed, wounded and affected by the bombing here in Oslo as well.
I was downtown, at work when the bomb went off. Luckily, I work about a mile away from where the bomb went off. We did hear the explosion, but at first we just thought it was thunder or construction work or something. 15 minutes later, our boss comes inn and tells us that there had been a bomb downtown, but the government buildings. I was so scared, I felt sick. Of course you think about how horrible it is for those who was at the site, but automatically a part of your brain starts worrying if there's gonna be more bombs. I just wanted to go home, seeing as I live a bit outside of town. But, I didn't know if I wanted to get on the subway or not, coz that's always a target. And then the online papers started talking about two more bombs still being around. It was so scary. And when I got home, we started hearing about the situation at the camp. I was glued to the telly for hours, just watching the same images of downtown Oslo looking like a war zone and the horrible reports from the camp. When I went to bed at midnight, they police said that there was about 9 or 10 people killed at the camp. When I woke up, they had found 80 dead kids so far.
Today I found out that a girl, who used to be my neighbour when we were kids, was one of the kids that didn't make it out of the camp alive. I've know here family all my life, I was friends with her big sister, and both of her parents have been my teachers at some point. I just cannot imagine how much pain they must be going through now. It is so unfair.
Just thinking about all of this makes me cry. Norway hasn't seen anything like this since world war 2. I must say that our Prime Minister has done a really good job handling this. He has shown us what a strong leader he is. I am so proud of my country and of our leaders for spreading love and compassion instead of hate and rage after this. Our Prime Minister said that we are going to fight this with more democracy and openness. That is the right way to fight this. If we can stand together and show that man, and everyone else that is thinking about doing the same, that things like that will not silence us or change us, it will only make us stronger, make us believe in our country and what we stand for.
Someone said this, and it perfectly sums up what I feel now:
"If one man can show so much cruelty and hate, think of how much love we can show together."
Yeh, I just needed to write a bit about this. It probably won't be the last time I write about it...
