Finally caught up on Bones, and, thanks to
4th_avenue_cafe, I've been thinking a lot about how House and Bones differ in their treatment of the interns, and why one succeeded where the other failed. So that'll come later. But first, let me say this, with regards to The Doctor in the Den: I absolutely do not believe that a tiger ate a human and left the skeleton intact. You've got to be freaking kidding me. Animal interference is one of the BIGGEST influences on postmortem destruction: taphonomists look at that almost first. The hell is that body placed the way it was. Bones gets things right more often than not, but when they go wrong, it's like all the fact-checkers went on vacation that week (actually, could I have that job? I'd LOVE it). Also, Brennan's clothes sucked this episode. In general, I covet her wardrobe (professional AND beautiful - the women in this show are the best-dressed professionals on television), but here, everything was either ugly or just super-unflattering. Loved Angela's black and green formal dress, though.
As for tonight's episode:
I love when this show is unabashedly geeky. So few shows are.
"You know you're grounded, right?" Oh Cam. Love you, and the way you treat the "kids". Also love the way Hodgins and this intern (Mr. Nigel Murray - hee) interact. They're hilariously enthusiastic and curious, and he's one of my favorites. I LOVE trivia, and people who learn for the sake of learning. :D
That is the most romantic engagement ring I've EVER heard of. Beautiful, unusual, and meaningful.
Brennan, you are a little creepy. Trust me - so am I. :D Also, Booth uses finger quotes the right way: click ONCE - you've already got two fingers up! :P
Oh man, Jules Verne reference! Yay! (Also, Hodgins totally IS Captain Nemo. Awesome.)
Mid-episode recap WHAT?
The second Booth stepped into that chamber too, I knew bad things were going to happen. Guys, DUMB. Don't you know you're on TV? Also, when the creepy music kicks in, panic!
Booth is WAY smarter than average. He's just below Brennan's experience of average, which is clearly very bizarre. And it was time for her to acknowledge that somehow. Also, ahahahahaha at Hodgins's plight! :D
The promos look entertaining and awesome. One of my favorite things is when Booth says, "That's my girl!" I have weird preferences for nicknames/terms of endearment. For example, I address people as what they are (call my dogs "Puppy" and the baby I watched this summer "Baby"), and my favorite term of endearment is "dear heart". Or, a la George Cooper, "darlin' girl". :D
At first, I thought Michael's whiteboard quote said (wrongly), "You miss 100% of the shits you don't take," and I couldn't figure out how they got that on the air. But no. Maybe it was a clever little squishing of the O? Or maybe I'm just dumb. Could be that, too.
Loved the details they had in this episode, like the international clock labels without the clocks, which only appeared halfway through the episode. They're always brilliant at that.
Liz, you're gorgeous and I love you, but don't wear black turtlenecks and dark skinny jeans. One, it's horribly unflattering to your hips, and two, you look like a high school drama nerd filling in on tech for the senior class play and eagerly anticipating your chance to star next year. But she and Jack were adorable at the end: "Things don't just magically work out." Aww.
Also, loved how the last two birds Kenneth named were after the producer as his (her? What IS Lorne?) name came up on the credits. Awesome. :D
This is the first time I've watched TV while it was on in a LONG time. It made me happy. :D And don't forget, intern analysis coming soon!
