It's been an absurdly long time since I've checked this, partly because, for whatever reason, I don't spend as much time on here in the summer (which is odd - I have more free time, and I'm certainly not spending it at the beach. Do I have more free time? You know, I might not) and partly because I was away for two days. So if anything particularly awesome happened, let me know!
I am having so much trouble downloading the Doctor Who finale, and it's breaking my heart. I want to watch! I want to read what you all had to say! It sounds brilliant.
Guys, so many people who come into work (I work at the Barnes & Noble cafe, and it's awesome) keep asking me if I'm from Ireland. I don't get it. I look very Irish, yes, but I always thought I sounded very American. But my friends tell me that when I'm reading aloud/in an authoritative position/reciting something rehearsed/talking loud I slip into a British/Irish accent. So weird.
And now, the point of this entry and part of the reason I haven't checked in so long: I went to see a Feist concert in Boston on Tuesday. It was amazing. If you even kind of like her music, go see her if you get a chance. She's so energetic on stage, so lively and so connected to the audience. And guys, there were shadow puppets. The most amazing shadow puppets ever. In the second song of the encore (can't remember what it was - possibly "When I Was A Young Girl" - but she should've ended with it; instead she went on to a slower song, which meant the audience left with less energy than we should've had), they made a volcano. And in "Mushaboom", they acted out the song; in "I Feel It All", there were colored fireworks. It was spectacular. The music was great, too; Feist is astonishingly difficult to understand when she sings, and it's even worse live than on the albums, but she's got a delightfully unusual voice, and it works excellently with what she does. I do think she should've saved the bigger hits for the end; her second song was "Mushaboom", and she'd played most of the easily recognizable ones within 4-5 songs of that. I was fully expecting her to save "1234" for the encore, but she played it about halfway through the show. There was a nice arc because of that, however, with the high-energy songs at the beginning, slowing down later in the show, and picking up just enough towards the end to get the audience on its feet, with an energetic "Sealion" making an excellent final song (pre-encore).
So, yeah. If you get the chance to see her, do it, especially if (like me!) you can get free tickets. :D If you don't know her music (which, I thought she was one of the really well-known indie artists, but my non-WBRU friend who's into female indie artists didn't know her, so), check out
"I Feel It All",
"Mushaboom", the iPod-commercial song
"1234", and my favorite video,
"My Moon My Man".
