Oh my God, you guys, I got
recced. :D I have never seen any of my fics recced before, and while I always read lists of recs (especially in Bones) and hope I'll see myself, I'm never surprised (though I am, I confess, a little disappointed) when I don't. But here, OH MY GOD. I am so ridiculously excited I can't begin to say. :D
In other news, since my last post, I've kind of been planning a Bones con which will probably never get off the ground, but which would be awesome. It would, of course, take place in Washington, DC, partly because of ease of access and partly because, hello, SETTING. It would involve field trips to the J. Edgar Hoover Building and the Smithsonian, a bone lab (excavation, basic identification, that kind of thing), and lectures/panels/discussions on anthropology and the show. I would LOVE to have Kathy Reichs lecture, and, of course, at least some of the cast; I'd also like Clea Koff, who does identification of victims of genocide. This show is so firmly rooted in the idea that all humans have a right to live, and she really embodies that ideal. (Read her book The Bone Woman, stories about her excavations. It gets painful at times, but it's also hopeful: there are pictures of her surrounded by horror, and she's just got this huge grin on her face, like she trusts that life can get better. You'll understand why I want her to speak.)
I should probably not spend so much time planning something which will probably never get off the ground, not least because I have a distinct lack of follow-through. :P
I am behind on Doctor Who, but not as much now as I was before. Now it's only 1 episode, which I will watch with excitement tomorrow (hopefully). But "Turn Left" kept reminding me of
this story by Arthur C. Clarke (who died recently, which is how I found the story in the first place). I wonder if that phrasing was intentional? It wouldn't surprise me at all.
I love, though, how despite their great differences, the Doctor's Companions (at least the new ones) all have one thing in common: they think they are surpassingly normal, but in reality, they are extraordinary. Look at the strength exhibited by all of them, the force of personality and the depths of courage each of them has. I do miss Rose's bubbliness, though. I love when any of the characters I love becomes badass, but I liked how she was so important and strong while being bubbly and lovable. It's interesting to think about how she became who she is now, but I also thought she was more three-dimensional and real before, because we saw her joy and sorrow, pain and fear and love. More than just her determination. Maybe this will change in the next episode which, dude, looks EPIC.
