Things I Have Done Since Thursday

So this year, I joined WBRU, as you may know, and I love it. Yesterday, I was there for a meeting at 7:15, and afterwards was coerced into going to a concert. I was standing there innocently, planning on doing work last night (which would've failed anyway, because the books I need have been checked out), when suddenly I was being talked into accepting a free ticket and ride to the concert. Who was it? Third Eye Blind. I only know a few of their songs, but I know enough that a free ticket? Is awesome. I LOVE BRU.

I don't have any pictures, sorry, but I can tell you a bit about the concert (and, if you want, link you to the WBRU review when it's written: the kid who is doing it was next to me, so it should be done at some point). It was kind of absurd at points: the lead singer was wearing a white suit, the coat of which he later doffed (at which point he looked like he was wearing his pajamas), a top hat (occasionally), and no shoes. The first two-three songs were played in the dark, apparently for the effect. At one point, they brought in a COUCH, and they all sat on it to play acoustic stuff. Also, the lead singer was ridiculous: for the first hour and a half, every time he spoke, he repeated everything FOUR TIMES, for no apparent reason. Including the phrase: "We need to feed off your energy like vampires in the night! Like vampires in the night! Like vampires in the night!" Dude, you're insane.

But the show was a lot of fun. "Jumper" (the one I REALLY knew) and "Semi-Charmed Life" got the crowd really going and made the last half-hour (of a two-hour show) truly amazing; "Jumper" had everyone singing along at the top of their lungs, jumping up and down, and everyone on stage got a lengthy solo. The guitar player and the drummer were FANTASTIC. I was really glad they coerced me into going.

Thursday, I was feeling pretty sick; apparently I just really needed a day off. It was lovely. I slept a lot, and watched a lot of television! So here's a little snippet of everything I watched Thursday.

Pushing Daisies
Guys, this episode made me flail. How much do I love Ned? How awesome is Chuck and Olive being friends? How much fun is it to watch Emerson being all awkwardly and unfortunately in love?

I don't know what else to say. I just really love this show. Also, it's fun to watch television while wearing only underwear. (I like having a single this year.)

Ugly Betty
Why does everyone die on this show? Isn't it technically a comedy? Regardless, that was a good death. He knew the truth, he reconciled with his wife and his son; he was loved. A good death.

I don't like this "Betty not working at Mode" thing. Yes, she had to quit for her character growth and so the show doesn't stagnate and all that, but I honestly don't think Mode has been entirely bad for her. She's more assertive and more sure of herself, now, and more willing to do the things that need to be done.

The Office
This was the one with the ping-pong, and Michael/Jan's lawsuit, right? Assuming it is: liked the ping-pong, even if it wasn't the greatest Jim-plot ever (fell kind of short, to me, actually), particularly Kelly and Pam getting all bitchy and up in each others' faces, and then utterly failing at it. Also that Jim and Darryl were just like, yeah, ping-pong is fun. Don't really care who wins. "My boyfriend is twelve" seemed kind of ominous to me, though, and I don't WANT ominous, because hello, Jim and Pam! Enough problems in the past, thanks! But it was balanced by Pam's later falling into juvenile behavior herself.

I felt bad for Michael, with the journal and Jan being kind of awful during the case and everything. I mean, I completely understand where she's coming from, but he's still her boyfriend! She must be so frustrating to date: she varies between awful and demanding and cold, and really sweet and helpful and loving.

Scrubs
Aw, Cox. Love you. Also, I loved his list of things he is, particularly a Parrothead (!) and a registered Independent (which, um, what? There was an episode - the one where he's running around with Jack, and he falls off the playground and gets hurt, and Jordan gets really mad at him, and then they list the things they worry about - where he implied that he loathed all registered Independents. What?).

The Janitor is, like, seventy different kinds of amazing. He's so insane, and so awesomely so, and I kind of like that he doesn't have a name, still. I'm surprised it wasn't revealed in this episode, though, seeing as it's the last season and all. (Holy crap, how are they going to end this series? That episode had better be good. This show is so legendary, I thought it was already off the air before I started watching.)

Catch Me If You Can
I watched this with my friend Julie, who's seen it before, and I definitely agree with her description of the ending: "He gets caught, and it's still a happy ending!" Fantastic. Because there was no possible alternative to his getting caught - that's not an ending, and if so, almost never a happy one, because getting away just means you'll be looking over your shoulder until you DO get caught. This was the perfect ending. I loved his intimate knowledge of the fraud underworld, and how he can tell almost immediately how a check was printed.

Basically, he's a genius, and that's sexy. Particularly since he's also attractive. :P (I'm always surprised, no matter how many of his movies I see, that Leonardo di Caprio is actually a good actor. I didn't even see Titanic, but his presence in it affected me for life. Same with Kate Winslet, but I got over that one more quickly. No idea why.)

A really interesting movie all around, though. The psychology of the whole thing was fascinating, how he became this legendary con artist while still unimaginably young and still completely hung up on his parents' relationship. I'm really interested in criminal psychology, and so it was very cool to see where he was coming from and why he kept doing this.

It was also amusing to see Ellen Pompeo, Amy Adams, Jennifer Garner, and Elizabeth Banks (best known to me as Kim on Scrubs), and be like, "Hey! I know you!"

There is, apparently, a major spoiler for Bones posted on _onebreath's journal. I say "apparently" because I didn't look, but I think I may have seen something before I managed to get my hands up to cover my eyes. Damn my curiosity. I didn't want to see what I think I saw!
