Ok, so I haven't finished the episode yet, and I loved the monologue/montage at the beginning, no matter how cheesy it is (and Jessica is awful at
recognizing scenes -
really) because it's also very sweet (and because that's exactly what I want out of my life), but seriously, I just needed to rant about one thing:
DEAR GOD, THAT EMAIL WAS AWFUL. If I encountered that in fanfic, I'd run screaming. And it's CANON! "Dearest Dana"? Since when does he call her that? Ok, ok, so he may be trying to remain anonymous, but still. It's not like anyone who knows Mulder and reads the email will not know it's him. Also, "I am physically shaking as I type this"? Since when does Scully admit to weakness/pain/sorrow? Even in email? Even to Mulder? And their email addresses are EXACTLY what a bad fanfic writer would pick out to use (or what a fan would use as a username...): trust_no1 and queequeg. Scully would be far more likely to use "Starbuck" than "Queequeg", seeing as that was actually her nickname, and "trustno1" was Mulder's computer password early on in the series. You'd think someone as paranoid as he is would have more variety (I'll admit, most of my passwords are exactly the same, but it's not something ANYONE can guess).
I've got "Trust No 1" running on DVD, and "Anasazi" running on
TV Links. Anasazi, while not exactly one of my favorite episodes (War of the Coprophages, Memento Mori, Post-Modern Prometheus (if only for the ending), Detour, and Triangle rank among those), is part of my favorite mytharc series, and probably my favorite season finale. (Also beloved are Redux and Redux II, which is a redundant name if I've ever heard one.) Guess which I'd rather watch? Guess which I have to watch in order to return it to Netflix in a timely manner?
ETA: Having now seen the episode, I find it extremely entertaining to note that Terry O'Quinn (who is also Locke on Lost) has died about 4 times in this show, including the movie, as just as many characters. What, they couldn't find another actor? :P
