Vampire Diaries

... because I have nothing better to write about, but promised I would write something even (especially) when I didn't have time.

I suppose I should start by mentioning Twilight, which I both liked and disliked. Despite lacking personalities, plot and realistic boyfriends, I thought there were some good ideas beneath it all. Now that I've seen, but have not read, Vampire Diaries, I know where those few good ideas came from.

Before I get any arguments here, which I won't, because LJ is basically dead (which makes it easier for me to write, actually, but I digress...) Vampire Diaries, the books, were first published in 1991, so yes... they came first. Yes, I know the show does not follow the same plot, but for my purposes, it doesn't matter.

What DOES matter:

People die in Vampire Diaries. A lot of people. Not just the bad guys. It's a story about vampires... if half the people didn't die by the end... something went wrong in the writing stage.

Stefan isn't perfect. Which is good, because Edward is boring... and unrealistic.

Dating a vampire isn't safe. You will get more than a scrape on the arm.

Damon. :)
He gets his own line. Though I should probably add that in real life... 99% of assholes are really just assholes.

Elena, though not my favourite female character, has a life that doesn't completely depend on who she is with.

Plot. As in... it actually has one.

I suppose I could say more, but I won't. It's still very much a teenage drama and I'm not in love with it, despite the smile that sneaks on my face with Damon's appearance... you know, once we see he is more than just a murdering psychopath.

However, I was pleasantly surprised that a vampire human love story (which, yes, has not been a new concept since Bram Stoker) still has hope in the modern age. Especially for those of us who don't like glitter.
