Title: Sometimes
Pairing: Gerard/Frank
Disclaimer: Not mine :(
Summary: Sometimes things just don't work out the way you want them to.
Author's Notes: Just a few short excerpts from Frank and Gerard's relationship throughout the years.

Gerard walks into Mrs. Xavier's ninth grade math class (just a few minutes late) and quickly scans the room for an empty desk. His eyes slow instantaneously on a boy in the front . His hair is cut in a pink and black mohawk, and for a second Gerard marvels at how different this school is than his last one. He then notices an empty desk in the third row, and hastily shuffles into it, and attempts to concentrate on parabolas.

Gerard (20 pounds thinner, wearing all black in September sun, bright red roots) and Frank (Mohawk grown out, and still not taller like his Doctor promised) are holding hands as they walk across the pavement back to the school building. Adam is walking alongside them, describing his summer conquests in glorious detail. Gerard's smiling a little until his stomach squelches unhappily and Frank lets his hand go. The gym teacher passes by, and Gerard thinks, oh. His intestines are still tightened when Frank takes his hand in his again. Gerard frowns a bit, but says nothing. Frank is his best friend, so he supposes it's alright.

Frank is sleeping soundly next to Gerard. They are in Frank's house, in Frank's bed, fully dressed. It is not yet 11 PM. Gerard is plotting murder. His back hurts and he'd only been with Frank an hour before Frank had exclaimed, "I'm exhausted!" and promptly conked out.
Gerard prides himself in being a nice guy. He considers himself a considerate person. Far be it for him to wake Frank up from his well deserved (he's not clear on the details, but Frank said he'd been moving boxes for his step-dad) rest. Unfortunately, Gerard took a nap earlier today and sees no way in which he can possibly fall asleep. Especially when Frank's bed feels like it is an inch wide and his share of the blankets has been stolen by a certain little fucking punk.
So Gerard waits. He waits to fall asleep, and in the meantime, he thinks. It was about seven months ago when he realized he was bi. (He doesn't like to admit it to himself, but this realization was accompanied by very embarrassing feelings for one Frank Anthony Iero.) Gerard wants to be that guy who lives in the now and fucks the consequences. He turns over and sees his best friend sleeping before 11 PM on a Saturday night, and-not for the first time-ponders the fact that he will probably never be that guy.
So Gerard waits to fall asleep and doesn't wake Frank up.

Today is the day Frank gets married (not to Gerard, don't be ridiculous) and Gerard thinks fondly of his high school friend. They live a bit too far from each other now (Gerard in New York, Frank still in Jersey) to hang out very often, but Gerard still loves the little punk (not that he's still that same little shit, having gone to med school and settling down with a nice girl). So Gerard is roughing the two hour drive down, and it's totally worth it, because Jamia is a sweet girl, and Frank. Well, let's say that old feelings die hard. But Gerard's got a life outside of Belleville, and it's just one of those things that didn't really work out. It's not like Gerard ever ached over the matter, as some romance novels might describe an unrequited crush (not that Gerard would ever admit to having read such a piece of 'literature'). Gerard's happy with things as they are (it might have something to do with finally seeing a therapist).
Whatever. He doesn't mean that in a passive aggressive way, he means that what happens, happens. This is how life is, sometimes. That's all.
