True Colors: The Recap

Jun 23, 2007 01:33

It was amazing.

We arrived and used our tickets to get in while we waited on Caroline and her friends to arrive (they had extra tickets for betters seats that they gave us). The Dresden Dolls performed while we were still in the JJ row. They were amazing, but I was overall very disappointed. They played for less than twenty minutes!! They played a cover, Coin Operated Boy, Girl Anachronism, Shores of California, and Sex Changes. They sounded perfect, but they crowd was not into it, and I was kinda pouty because we were so far away- haha. I really expected them to play longer. It's probably a good thing they didn't play Half Jack though- that song kills me inside. It makes me cry almost everytime I hear it.

BUT. And I mean but, because this makes up for it-- I MET THEM!! I MET AMANDA PALMER. I am such a freaking fangirl for her, it was not one of my proudest moments. I planned on getting a big hug and kiss from her (if you know how long I have been a fan, you understand how big a deal this was for me) and I just froze. They signed my stuff, and Brian was all smiling at me and touched me, and Amanda winked at me, then put her hand on mine and what did I do?? I said "thank you". I fail. Hahaha. They told us they would take pictures with us after they signed everything so it would be easier... so I hung out and waited (and tried not to faint- the heat was bothering me and I have not been sleeping well) with some neat friends that I made in line but Amanda and Brian suddenly got pulled off by security. They said they would be back, but it didn't happen. I never got my picture.. LE POUT! But here are the ones I took of them:

Signing my stuff!! EEE! Look at Brian's belly! He is precious. And yes, he was in his undies. I harth him.

Amanda has definitely lost some weight. *fangirl squeel* I think I met her girlfriend. She was gorgeous.

They were eating some cookies that one of the people (Jordan) I met took! Amanda tossed hers up and caught it in her mouth. Then they kissed him, it was adorable.

So while I met them, Debbie Harry performed. And honestly- she was the biggest let down of the night. She did only solo stuff (no Blondie at all) and she didn't have much energy or stage presence.

Margaret Cho was friggin hilarious though. She almost made me pee my pants. I thought I was going to go into cardiac arrest from laughter. I want to hug her really badly now, and just pinch her precious little cheeks (and maybe wash her mouth out with soap).

Erasure played a rather long set. They were really good. I didn't even know they would be there, it was a nice surprise. Caroline and I could not get over the fact that one of them was playing his laptop instead of an instrument. They were lots of fun to dance to.

And then.. oi.. Cyndi. Wow, she was mind blowing. She had so much energy, so much passion, she sounded INCREDIBLE (I think I time traveled back into the 80's- she was that good) and she played so many of my favorite songs. She even did Goonies R Good Enough!! She used to never perform that! She did a song from her Blue Angel days too, that impressed me. I wish she would have done Hat Full of Stars but you can't win them all, eh?

The finale was incredible. Everyone came out on stage, Brian was wearing this crazy suit with his belly showing... Amanda sang a lot with Cyndi and Debbie, and even Margaret sang!!! They performed Take a Chance on Me, everyone sang together. And then, as expected, they did an amazing rendition of Cyndi's True Colors. You know what's silly? It made me cry.. haha. It is such a positive song, and everyone was singing together- the crowd was all singing and it was just awesome. There was also balloons and glitter, and a lot of rainbow lights. It made me happy.

It was one of the best nights I have ever had. I had a ton of fun with Robin and Caroline- thanks for making the night so great, guys! You are great concert buddies!!

Ps; I offically have all my stuff here and am 100% out of my mom's place.
