Fire Alarms and Possibilities of Dying Firey Deaths

Feb 26, 2004 11:57

Apparently last night the fire alarm (which, for those of you who went to NMRHS, is ten times worse than NMRHS's fire alarm AT LEAST) went off, somewhere around 2 am. Neither Caryn nor I woke up. We completely slept through it. But as if that wasn't the crazy thing, here's what's crazier: JENNY woke up and tried to go back to sleep. She didn't even wake us up!

(Now no one start ragging on poor Jenny, for 2 reasons. 1) We are already quite on top of it and 2) She knew that there wasn't a fire, it was just someone who burnt popcorn. Back to the amusement.)

Well, I knew about the fire alarm, but I thought that it had been in a different building in the Quad. Seriously, I was like "well, if it had in been in our building, I definitely would have heard it" We've already established that this statement was an unintentioned lie. But Jenny and Caryn were talking about it and I suddenly realized, "Wait, the alarm wasn't in our building, was it?"

"YES!" they exclaimed.

Me: Wait, so the alarm went off in OUR building, we didn't wake up and YOU DIDN'T WAKE US UP!

Caryn: EXACTLY!

Jenny: But you guys were sleeping and I just wanted to go back to sleep.

Caryn: So you were going to let us die a firey death?

Jenny: But, I -

OKay, so this kind of continued, with Caryn ranting about flames consuming our bodies and us dying a firey death. Jenny insisted upon sleeping, and that she didn't even go outside until after the alarm because she "wanted to see what was going on." And I was still trying to get over the fact that 1) I didn't hear the alarm, 2) Jenny didn't wake us up, 3) I slept through that thing!, 4) Jenny was going to let us burn, 5) DID I REALLY SLEEP THROUGH IT? 6) and no one else came to get us? Umm... lots of things like that.

Then we got into this discussion about our sleep habits, trying to explain how we slept through the alarm. Caryn's been having trouble sleeping, finally got a good night's rest, and woke up to Jenny typing but hadn't heard me get up. She was wondering about me having class, but then she said "Wait, who cares if she has class, I'm SLEEPING"

Jenny then says, "Now you see where I'm coming from"

Caryn: No, see, whether or not Sam has class and dying a firey death are two COMPLETELY different things!

Jenny: But you guys were sleeping.

Caryn: I think we would have woken up when the flames started consuming our bodies.

Themes of the story: Sleeping is more important than dying.(Jenny) Sleeping is louder than fire alarms. (Sam and Caryn)

Morals of the story: Jenny cannot be depended upon if there is a fire in the building and the alarm goes off... Someone come and get us if that is the case.

Don't burn popcorn at 2 am, Len. You should be dead asleep like the rest of us!

Oh, and the fire alarm seems to be more of a friend than our radiator. In case you didn't know, Mr. Radiator makes noises, particularly when we are sleeping or studying. I tried to make amends with him, as Caryn suggested he was our friend, but he still makes noises and I STILL heard HIM LAST NIGHT. BUt NO, NOT the Fire alarm! I just thought of this. I don't understand that. There is something wrong with that, I think. Oh well.
