For about 5 seconds just now, the word "new" (read in the phrase "new nose" - surprisingly, having nothing to do with Michael Jackson) looked completely and utterly wrong. Not even like it was spelled incorrectly, but like it was some word I'd never seen before in my life. I wonder what synapses in the brain have to fire (or not fire) in order for that to happen. It's not the first time it's happened to me, and I don't think I'm alone here. I wonder if I still have my neuro textbook? I don't think I'm going to find the answer in there, but it's been a few years since I made myself read something really hardcore science-y. NMDA, depolarization, excitotoxicity ... bring it on!
