but I just finished reading Consequences and wanted to post a story.
Before I do that, my opinion of Consequences = each story was alright by itself but having the Nina Roger's "story within a story" bit at the end was a bit much. Yes, it tied up the other stories and mentioned adventures from the other books, like Into the Silence, but I'm still trying to locate the "And why should Gwen and Ianto's actions at a local book publisher's affect Torchwood more than a century earlier" part.
Well, actually most of Nina's Torchwood related stories aren't easy for me to place. I still have a few more books to read - but those are the books I don't really want to read, don't want to buy either...maybe I'll just re-read their descriptions, see which match the 'flashback'...
Also, having taken a graphic design course, I have a complaint: apparently someone forgot the rule of Contrast. For the story Consequences? I can't tell which story id "current" and which is "back story". the font don't have enough contrast in them. I re-read the story several times each time I realize that something actually belonged inthe other category. So it's an ever changing story for me right now...I'l keep re-reading and hopefully I'll get it all sorted out.
Anyways...On page 221 there's a reference to The Sarah Jane Adventures, Season 2's Secret of the Stars. [aired Oct 2008] Jack's chasing after Ianto - who was born in August.
I've always wondered while watching one series -like SJA - what would be going on in the other series.
Seriously, if something happened in one series (like in SJA when they had the Moon moving out of it's orbit, or when there was a large meteor heading straight for Earth) why no mention in any of the other series. So far Jack mentioned the Arachnids but that was when he was actually in Doctor Who. That's pretty much it. No other verbal cross-overs even though all three shows are in the same universe.
Someone posted a story about what Torchwood did during the Adipose/Partners in Crime episode of Doctor Who. Which satisfied my curiosity about _that_ instance but what about others?
My take of what Torchwood did during the Secret of the Stars episode:
Mr Smith, Sarah Jane's sentient computer, alerts Torchwood...but, according to Jack, there's nothing they can do.
Gwen's furious. She's certain that there's something Torchwood can do, some alien tech they can use to counter the effects and she want Jack to act. She demands it. But as with Adrift [aired in March 2008] she has no answer when Jack counters with the question of what they should/could do. And for all her "I trust him with my life", she ignores his orders.
So the global broadcast begins. Ianto's in a panic. He remembers the Sycorax ship [aired 12/25/05 (wow that seems so long ago now) I wonder when Ianto started work at Torchwood One: Before or After that event], not sure if he was one of those 'possessed' or not, but I'm _sure_ it had an impact on him {maybe even why he's not fond of roofs?}. He's not looking fowarded to being one of the 1st group of people possessed.
Jack orders Owen to get out the tranquilizers and sedate everyone including himself. But Owen's with Gwen on this. So Jack, after ordering the team to the cells, gets the tranqs himself. Tosh and Ianto head for the cells. Jack follows. Gwen and Owen follow, protesting the entire time. Gwen can't believe that Jack's "given up" and continues to demand action from Jack. Jack ignores her and puts a call in to Dective Swanson. Jack assures her that the crises will pass but he tells her that this will be like that day the spaceship (Sycorax) appeared over London, with people walking away from whatever they were doing, like a doctor in surgery just walks out leaving the patient to die. Swanson's not happy to hear that nor that she has to sedate any and all prisoners since they'd be let out otherwise. She's shocked that Torchwood has "given up". Jack explains to her, and Gwen, that this wasn't Torchwood's fight. That even he could end up affected by this.
The team's arrived at the cells now. Ianto's, who brought a bag of things with him, gets comfortable (well, as comfortable as possible) in one of the cells. He had handed Tosh a thick blanket & pillow, and she goes into another cell, settling in there.
After ending the call to Swanson, he demands that Gwen & Owen tell him what they want him to fight and then, when they can't answer, he ignores them. After checking that Tosh is settled into the cell, he sedates her and then locks her in.
He then turns to Ianto, who's settling onto the bunk. Jack reassures him that they'll get through this. That the aliens, via Martin Trueman, had forgotten something and that The forgotten something is what'll end the crises. Ianto's still anxious but is calmer than he'd been. Jack sedates him, tucks him in. He gives Gwen and Owen one more chance to follow his orders. They disobey and stay out of the cells. He takes an extra blanket, a blanket that would have been used to Owen or Gwen, over to Tosh's cell, tucks it around her, and leaves, relocking the cell behind him. Going back to Ianto's cell, he takes a blanket and pillow out for himself, puts the last blanket over Ianto and then, after locking the cell door with his wrist strap, he settles in on the floor next to the cot, gives Ianto a kiss on his forehead and sedates himself. Leaving Owen and Gwen to suffer the consequences.
The two of them 'wake up' somewhere, no idea how they had gotten there. The remaining three wake up and start to work, coordinating Cardiff's emergency crises teams, doing the 'clean-up'work.
The end
Wow, that typed up much longer than it played out in my head.
That's it.
All right. Now I'm turning in. "Night, All! :)
p.s. - Yeah I know Owen & Tosh were dead by Oct 2008. but that leaves the story to be:
Jack, Gwen & Ianto were having a really bad week. Being short-handed they were working for long stretches of time with very little rest. One day, while rounding up a Hoix from a shopping mall car park, Ianto Jones just stopped running after it and walked off, leaving Jack to handle the creature.
Jack, seeing Ianto just stop and walk off, talked the Hoix and got it under control. After ensuring that it was unconcious, He ran after Ianto....it might be closer to what "really" happened but not as interesting. P,us as this is my story, Tosh & Owen get a "i'm not dead" card. :D
