pope john paul

Apr 08, 2005 01:30

It is 10:30am in Rome and I am watching the coverage of the Pope's funeral mass on the news right now.

When I was driving home from Joe's house tonight there was a little tribute on one of the radio stations that sounded like Celine Dion singing Ave, Maria with some soundbites over it talking about John Paul's life.

I honestly didn't know much about him until it actually came down to a few days before his death.
my father seems very affected by his death and so does the suddenly sympathetic media who love to repeat the same shots of him standing on the balcony at St. Peter's and then lying on the golden pillow.

I am definitely sad at his passing. Even though I have been such an awful Catholic these past few years I still feel proud to be a Catholic and that I can always go back to that church when I want to go "home", as my dad says. It honestly gives me chills to hear all of those people at the Basilica singing songs that I know so well.

Rest in Peace.
