canon history: She is an athletic blonde teenage girl who excelled at martial arts and gymnastics. Her father was in and out of jail and her mother was overworked and addicted to pharmaceuticals. Their family was always strapped for cash due to her mother’s low paying job as a nurse and her father being a third-rate villain. Stephanie first came on the scene as a vigilante to “spoil” the crimes of her father, the Cluemaster. Although her father had been cured of his clue dropping psychosis, Stephanie decided to leave clues for him so that the authorities could foil his plans.
Tim Drake, the third Robin, saw Spoiler in the act of leaving clues and believed she was working with Cluemaster. Tim chased her down and unmasked her, and received a brick in the face. He figured out Stephanie’s identity and recruited her help to aide Batman’s own vendetta against Cluemaster. Stephanie jumped in to save Batman from her father and the Cluemaster threatened her with sulfuric acid. In order to save Stephanie, Batman revealed to Clue Master that it was his daughter. While he was in a state of shock, she quickly took him down and was on the verge of choking him to death until Batman talked her out of it and the authorities took him in.
When her father escaped from jail again, Stephanie became Spoiler once again. She teamed up with Tim Drake to try and stop him. She succeeded in saving Tim’s life and he was so grateful that he kissed her. Stephanie started to develop a romantic interest in him and she decided to continue being a vigilante. After many encounters, Tim was forced to admit that he had feelings for Stephanie. He asked her to be his girlfriend but warned her that he could never reveal his real identity to her thanks to a promise he made to Batman.
Soon after that, Stephanie discovers that she is pregnant, which is due to a fling she had with a boy named Dean. Tim took her to Lamaze classes under his fake alias of “Alvin Draper.” Despite having already relocated to Keystone, Tim was able to make it to Gotham to be there for her when she gave birth. Due to a bad dream that Stephanie had about her father taking her child, she decided to give the baby up for adoption. Tim moved closer to Gotham and lived at Brentwood Academy, an all-boys boarding school. It was then that his and Stephanie’s relationship grew strained as she grew more upset about not knowing his secret identity. She began following him around in an attempt to find out where he lived. One of these attempts ended disastrously when she was confronted by Secret, a teammate of Tim’s from Young Justice. Secret harbored a crush on Robin and has even attacked Spoiler on occasion due to jealousy.
The tension did not end there. Stephanie suspected that Tim was cheating on her and refused to speak to him. She finally learned Tim’s real name when Batman revealed it to her because he wanted her to check up on Tim, who failed to check-in while on a mission with Lagoon Boy. Tim was infuriated that Batman revealed his secret when Tim worked so hard to protect his identity all for Batman’s sake. Tim then went away to clear his head and that’s when Batman decided to train Stephanie. She also gained a mentor in Dinah Lance (Black Canary) and worked with Birds of Prey for a while. During this time she started to develop a close friendship with the second Batgirl, Cassandra Cain. Cassandra trained with Stephanie and enjoyed her company. The two of them bonded over having father issues, seeing as Cassandra’s father only taught her how to fight.
Tim returned and did not blame Stephanie for what happened and resumed his relationship with her. Stephanie was shut out of the cave while Bruce Wayne was on the run from the cops for being framed for a murder. Stephanie went to talk to Batman about being shut out and Batman told her she didn’t have the skills or talent. Steph, of course, protested and Batman sent her on a mission to capture a Kobra Cult leader. It was a test to see if she could figure out that he had taken care of the mission already. She didn’t, and he fired her.
Stephanie’s world was turned upside down when she learned that her father had died while she was on a mission to save people for the Suicide Squad for no reward whatsoever. Stephanie took a short break from crime fighting and she was let go from the Birds of Prey, but soon resumed her Spoiler identity.
When Tim’s father found out about his dual life, he was forced to quit being Robin. Stephanie became angered with Tim when she thought she saw him kissing another girl and determined to prove herself to Batman, made her own Robin costume, and broke into the Batcave and declared to Batman that she was the new Robin. Batman accepted this, and Alfred suspected this might be a ruse to get Tim back on the job.
Stephanie served briefly as Robin, teaming up with her best friend Batgirl (Cassandra Cain) and defeating Zsasz. She disobeyed orders from Batman and he fired her and forbade her from even being Spoiler. She was of course hurt, and determined to prove herself to Batman. So she used the files from the batcave’s computer and used one of his plans to wipe out Gotham’s gangs. She did not realize that “Matches Malone” needed to be present. “Matches Malone” was one of Batman’s alternate identities that she did not know about. She accidentally started a gang war and was captured by Black Mask who tortured her for information. Eventually she was able to escape and beat Black Mask down. He grabbed a gun and she yanked it from his hand. But she didn’t want to betray Batman and Black Mask shot her with the gun as she hesitated.
Despite her injuries she was able to escape to the rooftops where Batman found her and took her to the hospital. She apparently died there under Dr. Leslie Thompkins care. Batman discovers later on that Cluemaster was still alive and repentant for his crimes upon learning of his daughter’s death. He was angry at Batman and released information on Stephanie to the public, and blamed Dr. Leslie Thompkin’s as the one that killed his daughter. Dr. Thompkins was a friend of Batman’s and would often treat the batfamily’s severe wounds. Cluemaster blamed Dr. Thompkin’s in hopes to dissuade Batman from taking on anymore sidekicks.
It turns out that Dr. Thompkins faked Stephanie’s death. Batman suspected that Stephanie was still alive and that’s why he never created a memorial for her. Stephanie returned to Gotham because she felt that she was running away. Tim was ecstatic to be able to see her again and leaned on her for support in the future (such as when he quit Teen Titans).
Stephanie was also under orders from Batman to try and make Tim stronger as Robin. She was forced to hire Scarab to try and make him sweat. Tim saw that through security tapes of her betrayal. He of course got angry and blamed it on her need to be Spoiler. He then said to her “Don’t let me catch you in that costume again.” She tried not to be Spoiler but realized it was too much apart of her to just be able to quit. After Batman’s death, Tim told her that he was leaving and told her not to get hurt. Stephanie decided to start fresh as well and applied for college. However she couldn’t resist her alterego and was on the streets once again fighting with her best friend, Cassandra Cain. However, Cassandra then quit being Batgirl and took off her costume and said she didn’t want it anymore due to Bruce Wayne’s death.
Stephanie then took the costume and began to do her crusade around Gotham dressed as Batgirl. Barbara Gordon, the first Batgirl, soon caught wind of this and confronted her, demanding that she stop being Batgirl. She even went as far as threatening to tell her mother that she was Batgirl. Stephanie of course didn’t listen and continued fighting as Batgirl. She even stopped Scarecrow from drugging students at her college and it was afterwards that Barbara was able to accept Stephanie as Batgirl and offered to be her mentor. With Barbara’s help she is still running around as Batgirl, even though Dick didn’t really approve at first.
personality: You can easily say that Stephanie is determined and stubborn. How many people can you say would continually look for the approval of one man? She has trust issues that may be due to the fact that her father was a third-rate criminal. He had lied to her saying he wasn’t committing crimes anymore but found out he still was. I believe her trust has wavered in people ever since then. The many bumps that she had in her relationship with Tim Drake was due to her not trusting him or the fact that he could never reveal his identity to her.
She has changed since taking on the mantle of Batgirl. She is still stubborn and a bit hesitant as her role as a crime fighter, probably because she has to uphold a certain standard when being associated with the Batman. But she has gotten over trying to win over the approval of others. She doesn’t care for the approval of the new Batman (Dick Grayson) and Robin (Damian Wayne).
She is strong both emotionally and physically (although not superhuman strength). She has a rough family life and dealing with being pregnant, she managed to get through that while keeping her head held high.
She now has the original Batgirl as her mentor. She feels a connection to Barbara most likely because she was a bit like Barbara when she started out being a vigilante. She didn’t get the approval of Bruce or even Dick, and they tried to get her to stop being a vigilante but she continued being one. Steph may be unsure about her decisions from time to time but she keeps trying and does what she thinks is right. She is a persistent person and doesn’t believe in giving up. She I a fighter and doesn’t take the easy way out.
why do you feel this character would be appropriate to the setting? Because she can build herself up more. And also make all the grouches be less grouchy.

Writing Samples
Network Post Sample: Honestly, there really should be a superhero seminar. So we could be prepared for unknown situations. Like, I don’t know, being kidnapped to an alternate world. Although…this may not count as kidnapping. It’s like being pulled into a job interview you didn’t know you had. Hopefully Gotham has someone to pick up the slack while I’m away. After all, there is no such thing as a quiet night in Gotham. I’m sure Oracle has it handled.
Well, time to suit up and find trouble.
Third Person Sample: Look at that, she managed to stumble on trouble in her first ten minutes. This place already feels like home. Now she just needed a couple psychos and some toxins that produce strange effects and it’d be exactly like home.
Nothing like that wonderful sarcasm to help her stay optimistic. She was starting to think that it came with the cape and pointy ears. Were there any bats and birds that weren’t sarcastic or making quips? She had heard from Tim that Dick was pretty horrendous with the quips back when he wore the Robin suit. Tim himself cracked a few. But most of the time he was too serious for his own good. It was almost like Tim had a rule of never having fun. He always acted like the responsible adult instead of a teenager. The Bat obviously had too much influence on him. Or maybe…too much pressure. But now, that pressure seemed to be of his own doing. Ugh. This was no time to think about her ex…it would just make her think of things that she shouldn’t. Like how awkward they were around each other.
She sighed and started using her newfound device. She saw posts from other citizens and hearing them in person…it seemed this place was bringing in a lot of new visitors. This place should get one of those McDonald’s signs that say how many it’s serving.
She wished Oracle were here to give her a hand. Research was something that she was good at.
What was she good at? It was something she was still finding out. Spoiler wasn’t welcomed too much in the crime-fighting community but she seemed to be making a name for herself as Batgirl. Hopefully it could stay that way here.
She heard a commotion and sighed. “More trouble. Time to get back to work.” She pulls out her grappler and swings off towards the commotion.
Anything else? ...Anything else? Is it okay to say she went back to her world but got pulled back into Scorched?
