best weekend ever?

Feb 26, 2007 13:02

woke up at 6:15 saturday morning (an hour behind schedule) to sophie calling from downstairs waiting to be let in. somehow we managed to make coffee, pull our shit together, stop by 7-11 for supplies and get to georgetown by 7 to hop the free bus the corcoran chartered to NYC. ive never been so proud of myself. rode up with sophie, corey, fabian, casey smith, etc. quality company. all we did was sleep. cant complain.

dropped off in columbus circle, within a block of the place i stayed my very first time in NYC. it felt nice to recognize, etc. grabbed coffee with corey, fabian, and casey, sent them on their merry art-filled day (everyone went up for a crazy weekend of art shows, i came to shoot astoria and play) and sophie and i wandered into central park to do as we do best while climbing the rocks. managed to get lost in the subway, find all sorts of silly people, and safely make it to astoria. after a life-changing lunch we met up with cole and his roommates, dropped our stuff off, and sophie and i took off to shoot.

walking straight in one direction for hours sounded like a good idea so thats what we did. best walk ever? i cant even begin to explain, only scan a contact sheet at best. we came back maybe 5 hours and ~7 miles later with photos and stories. best part had to be the fact that sophie didnt make me feel uncomfortable shooting - generally if im shooting with a purpose or just doing street photography in general i refuse to let anybody tag along. for some reason having other people there just make me nervous but she was awesome about it, going up ahead or dropping back, getting out of the frame if it looked like i was about to catch a shot, paying little attention to when i even brought the camera to my eye, etc. i might even go as far as to say id like her to come street shooting with me more often. good, good company.

that night was spent relaxing and getting wasted with cole and a couple of his friends at cole's place. i think every guy in the room fell in love with sophie, it was pretty hilarious. breaking hearts left and right and she doesnt even know it. i must have crashed at some point because i woke up fairly early on the couch - thats about as much as i can tell you. sophie got screwed on sleeping arrangements and woke up looking like she had been tied in knots so i gave up the couch, tied myself in knots, and we eventually made it up by 9:15 to shower and clean up.

the morning was spent getting coffee, watching laura and amy interview a new roommate (cole is moving to brooklyn - the interview was possibly top 10 most hilarious experiences of my life), and doing the general sunday morning in astoria thing. so pissed cole is moving. bastard. im pretty in love with the current situation but we're all stuck with each other - we like each other too much to stop hanging out so ill probably be staying with amy and laura next weekend, hanging out with cole at night but shooting and sleeping in astoria. but i digress. cole had taken off early to find food in manhattan, sophie and i relaxed a bit more, and eventually met up with cole to head to tribeca to visit lea at the studio. always great to see her. she has to be one of the most grounded people i know so shes always welcome company. post-tribeca we played hacky sack on the subway, attempted to stop by b&h photo/video but got there too late, and eventually just picked up bus tickets at penn station and played in the snow until saying our goodbyes to cole and hopping the bus home.

bus ride was hilarious, of course. after spending the day discussing our hatred of eddie murphy and confusion as to why he seems to solely be an obese black woman these days they, of course, played a fucking eddie murphy and ice cube movie on the bus. we sat in the back as to not make everyone on the bus hate us. fucking hilarious all around. we were dropped off in chinatown, walked back through the slush, and that was that.

fantastic weekend.
